@yup ...i just checked out the ebay sales on Dr Who and the market seems pretty stable with prices for the silver coin in the 140-50 range mostly..the gold coin is not selling and the NZ mint is looking for 3050NZD which translates into 2519USD which turns into 2811CAD which is my canada currency ....so I've made a technical profit already of 300.00CAD on the exchange rate!..as our dollar has dropped 10 cents since I bought the gold coin......as it happens ... which covers the 300 duty I paid to have it shipped from the USA dealer to Canada ...an ammount I've applied for as a duty refund as I'm sure that duty was not justified....as the coin is a pure bullion 999.9 gold coin...The Dr Who 11 coin set seems to be holding issue price or more and id still like to get that one .i note that the single coins from the 11 coin set are not available much anymore on ebay and some are listed as sold out already........but like you say @yup the spigot is off for buying right now in general I think unless youre buying low.... |

The Doctor Who silver Monsters subscription series also started. These are available at both the Perth Mint and the New Zealand Mint. But, for the gold coin, go to YouTube and there is a play list for the Perth Mint. There are at least two Doctor Who coin videos by the Perth Mint, one is for the gold coin. |

i did receive a duty refund on the Dr Who gold coin! 318.00 CAD was the ammount refunded by CBSA / canada govt which they had charged me for shipping from the USA into Canada....I note that Perth Mint is sold out on the gold coin now...With the current gold fever in the market I doubt that the Dr Who gold coins will be available from the NZ much longer and theres not much on ebay either last time I looked only 1 going for 2600 CAD |

Dr Who Gold is still listed at the NZ mint so it would seem that the 250 only mintage is a non factor in this coins popularity......I dont understand this reluctance because the coin is a tru rarity even in the overdone NCLT world of gold coins which regularily sell for these prices despite the huge drop in the price of gold.....I see more on ebay these days and the best price is still via the mint itself at 2589 USD..ebay prices range from 2600 to 3k plus

Dr Who gold coin is almost sold out at the NZ Mint......apparantly they have only 13 pieces left...Downies also have them..Acqua coins USA has them and there are some on ebay...Im not sure of any other sources so it shouldnt be too long before they are sold out in the main dealers catalogues

I think... and I am probably wrong.. but whats holding back this coin is the falling gold price. I still think that 250 is reallllly tight mintage that will benefit this coin in the future, and while the silver 1 oz coin was a hit, I think it being more affordable made the price rise..as more folks got it. this Dr Who gold coin "whoever" ( yes a little joke there lol), is going after a more higher end market of coin collectors and once its sold out it will be rare and the price should work out. Again, I think falling PM prices are impacting it and many other coins. |

The fallen gold price then must be affecting all these types of gold coins and in the RCM NCLT alone..in Canada, they are producing a lot of them which have higher mintage and still cost the same..for example there is a new 1/2 oz gold coin selling for 1200.00 with a mintage of 2000 and there was of course the Superman 14 kt. Gold coin of about 1/2 oz which has sold for as much as 3000.00 on much higher mintage than Dr Who..a lot of these similarily priced gold coins are selling out so the reason must lie deeper than the price of gold.......But I agree when they do sell out then the rarity factor will kick in and should produce some movement in the price.... |

Well.. could be that Dr Who coins, are a very very very NICHE market, like a subgroup of the coin market that likes Dr Who. The other might be the affordability... or maybe even the packaging... I gotta say, that was slick to package the tardis with the silver coin. I do find it interesting that the price has been sliding backwards on this coin and I dont think those high prices on ebay will really go. Overall tho, I do feel strongly that gold and silver coins are being impacted big time by the drop in PMs. BTW, did you see that new nice 1 oz turtle coin, in gold that was released in May? |

I agree that the slow response to the Dr Who Gold has to do with the popularity of the genre mostly among the fans of the modern version of the show..If they had packaged it in a gold plated Tardis box that might have tempted a few more buyers! As it is I find that the wooden box and sleeve packaging is quite excellent and the quality of the coin design superb so its going to become a collectors item pretty soon I think and well worth the investment...The NIUE 2014 Sea Turtle is an amazing looking gold coin with a mintage of 150..priced similarily to Dr Who ...im sure it will sell out faster to the NCLT nature lovers.....You have to really like Dr Who to buy the Gold coin I think |

I note that the Dr. Who Gold coin is now listed as SOLDOUT on the NZ mint website....This is good news for everyone who bought one and it has surprised most of us , I think, that it took so long to sell only 250 coins ...and these are beautifully wrought and presented coins.....so now I'm going to keep track mon ebay and see what happens to this coin...... |

@Cassidy Interesting.. I saw one on ebay couple weeks ago for about 2200,, which was shocking... big price drop. Dealers on ebay are trying to get about 2800 for this coin but no takers.. Is it because Dr Who is too niche that this coin hasnt moved even with its small mintage? Or have folks been turned away from buy big ticket gold items since prices are all over? I am not sure what to think... |

I assumed it was because the coin had such a huge premium over spot at the time it was sold, and that premium has only increased as spot prices have fallen. I'm a huge Doctor Who fan, but just couldn't see paying that much over spot for one of these. |

well, going off a recent ebay auction, it looks like this coin continues to sell either near or below its original list price, this despite the fact that the mint is now sold out.... I am guessing prices drop on this coin going forward. |

i think in the long term the Dr Who Gold coin will be a good investment because of the appeal of the TV show to younger audiences....but now that the coin is soldout at mint the price should rise gradually..but who knows? no pun intended...only the doctor I'm sure...i love my coin and think that the rarity will prevail over time.....the low spot for gold is a problem for some buyers but compared to the average NCLT gold coin these days they arent that much overpriced compared to bullion value |

so I been stalking this coin, one of many on my HUGE list.
man, I saw a recent auction go for 2050 and some change..ouch :/. I am glad I didnt get this one because I just knew the minute I bought it, it would drop.
no doubt about it, the dropping pm prices are impacting everything still, low mintage or not.
The best I can say about about this is that I believe a dealer was selling these new at around was it 2200? I dont have my records on me. In anycase, the threat is real in terms of lower prices from here.
bummer,,, I still want one.
