What is unique about the 1921 reverse, SD? I seem to have forgotten. I know I could look it up, but I would rather hear it from you.

Look at the shape of the arrow fletches - they're a dead giveaway. That even length progression, with no slanted top feather, is unmistakable.

There's no need to weigh it. Let me reiterate: The reverse on this coin was not even designed until 39 years after the date on the obverse.

SsuperDave, I get it ... the reverse design. The reason that I suggested to have the auction house weigh it is that this UK auction company may be unable to discern the relatively subtle reverse design differences that some of us CCF folks can readily see. However, the WEIGHT is something that they could more simply identify and account for, using a U.S. coin book or website. Also, the company would then have a relatively simple means of eliminating these more obvious counterfeits; this, should they genuinely care to do so in the future!

I see your point. Makes sense.

How did you pay, cash, check, or credit card? If it was credit card you have the option of a charge back with the card on the grounds they sold you a counterfeit (Misrepresentation)

I have just been informed after some very nasty interactions with Wessex Auction here in the UK that they have refunded my debit card.

Great news!

In recent years, I've seen too much of this "coin junk" being sold by auctioneers who are far more interested in profits than professionalism. IMHO, if an auction house is either to lazy or too ignorant to accurately describe what they're selling, they shouldn't be in that business.

They said it was all my fault and one young man got very personal and very offensive on the telephone. A rude lot that I would never deal with again.

If there's some agency that oversees or licenses this auction house, I'd report them ... and, direct their attention to this thread, as well. What gall!

Sounds like you got a refund, if so very cool...it's a fake.

You should look for a nice looking 1881-CC MS-63 or 64 in the the original GSA plastic slab. You will enjoy it immensely.

They point blank refused to refund me after many e-mails and phone calls and then out of the blue changed their minds. So I got refund, thanks folks. I am familiar with Canadian and NFLD but not US....that will teach me!

Please, but give them the respect of their own thread - others may see this one as "old news" and not click it again.
