Why would you do such a thing to a brand new coin?

Quote: Why? I got 3...and I intend to try and spend one, so I thought id have some fun with it. I'm saving one in the packaging, might save this one, and I've got a spare. I've never been one for the top grade coins - Id only be bothered with a proof, not a business strike.

1 out of my 3 have the butt mark. That makes 4 butt marks and 5 clear butts I shall keep 1 of each. Can't go wrong for £20 for £20.

My 3 arrived today.
No 'butt marks'.
They appear more like proofs to me.

I got my three today, no marks on any of them.
Did you manage to spend one? I've read online that the banks are not accepting them.

Banks are not obliged to accept any form of currency. They can choose not to take £1 coins if they really wanted to. However, the post office does use all forms of currency and guarantee to take £5 coins. Thats probably the safest bet. But I reckon Ill just list them on ebay for the tim ebeing (free listing weekend).

Ben, You'll have to charge at least £23.50 to break even, won't you ?
Will people pay that ?

Ive decided to put it on ebay at a silly price because its a free listing weekend. People go nuts for toning, after all. No listing fee, so I wont lose anything from this endeavour.

Ben, Thanks. I didn't know it was a free listing weekend.
Perhaps I'll try it out.

@BenByfield No a bank may not have to take coins in, but the reality is that as long as you bank with them they will do. However they have stated that they will not accept these, forcing The Royal Mint to offer a refund on them for upto 6 months according to press reports. I've seen a couple go for £44.99 on ebay, one listed bnut not sold for £120 (You have to admire the sellers ambition!!) and a few other achieving prices of around £28 to £29 each. Many receive no bids.
