Looks like it's missing a piece in the middle though, like a lamination. Does the reverse have that grainy/acid look too?

Acid on a Specimen Penny? The parallel lines, look kind of like those on specimen coin,maybe the acid attacks the lower points quicker?

it is not acid I brought to a coin dealer he has numerous ideas how this could happen,but his first is heavy die wear possible thin planchet and a mixture of grease left on the die

i use a small digital camera and a 30x loupe with a nighttable light only
