Reducing prices could result in higher profits.

Anyway, on my side, I think 2014 will be the year I'll spend the less money for the past 5 years to the RCM... I'm not a frustrated customer, but I'm very upset how they price their product and also the monthly release is ridiculous... As a customer, I have the responsability and the power to decide if the RCM deserve my money, and the answer to this question is NO. And for sure, I know that the coins of the last 2-3 years, their will stay close to their release price and also under because of the too much release and the over-saturated market... So if you want to still discuss about the same thing over and over again, you just have to continue to buy their overpriced coins for 2014 and this subject will continue over and over again...

My initial post was not an attempt to rehash old pricing discussions or complain about the RCM's pricing model. It was simply an attempt to engage folks in a discussion of the US Mint's surprising move to lower its prices on its upcoming commemorative silver dollar (due to the current silver market) and its possible impact on the RCM's pricing for its upcoming silver dollar.

The USM and RCM price their annual commemorative silver dollars very similarly. It might make sense for the RCM to follow suit and lower their coin prices as well.

I know @commnens... I apologize but I think that believing the RCM will reduce their prices is like believe that the Santa Claus is real... I look at the latest financial results of the RCM, and if it was a private company on the stock stock, I would not be a stock owner... They don't really have the choice to overprived their product, because their operational cost are so high...

So, you think that RCM and USM are directly competitors?
I don't think so.

@arianzo: I think all of the world's mints are competitors to some extent. They are all chasing collector dollars for their NCLT products and are all trying to expand their international customer base.

In the case of the RCM and USM, their geographic proximity and overlapping collector audience makes it "smart business" for them to keep an eye on each other on many levels, including technical innovations, popular products and pricing.

While the US have a domestic market about 10 times bigger then the RCM, I don't think the US mint really matter about the RCM product...

@Mialonde1977: You may be right, but I have a different view. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I consider that the RCM marketing strategy and public is very very different.

If RCM would want to lower it's prices they could do it, they have a good profit margin. Check how the employees get between 5 and 15% discount like a dealer: http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-s...IdZ552397687

interesting - 5% to 15% discount. Hummmm... maybe the executives also get coin options (like stock options but for coins). Great. More flipping.

It's already $25 for $20 at the post office, and no, the RCM will NEVER reduce prices. They will just reduce mintages.

In fact, the RCM has increased prices in 2013 despite the fact that precious metal prices have fallen.

Then again, the mint might reduce the amount of silver per coin and keep the 20 4 20 @ $20... you know, like they do with chocolate bars and potato chips... umm... popcorn?
