The proofs are remarkable, can't wait to see how they come out on the pucks.

Thanks for the picture.

Are you talking about the box and/or mailing package, or the lense itself.?

Mailing packaging, I see a lot of coins on ebay still in their brown mailing envelopes/boxes.

But while that may sound like a neat thing. How do you know if shipped correctly and quality?

I have never been a believer that original mail packaging or sealed envelopes add any value to proof sets or mint sets. especially modern sets. If I take a coin out of it's OGP, I always save the box and capsule. If you want, carefully open and save the packaging, who knows, in fifty years someone might be willing to pay extra for it .

As mentioned, you can not check the coins to see if they are in good shape or not if they remain in the mailing box. Only way I buy an un opened mailing box is something like a bulk box for 1964 proof sets or the like.

The only reason to do that would be resale. If you didnt buy the to sell open them and enjoy them

Yep, I agree. These are my first coins ever from the mint so I wasn't sure what folks did when they got a new coin or set from them.

How long does it usually take before these puppies start showing up in the NGC holders?

The original unopened PBGS mailing boxes are only good if you're going to submit the coins inside for grading with First Strike label, that's why you see them on e-Bay so frequently.

I agree. For the record, I am a big fan of the "open" option.

Well, opening them was a mute question. They came in a large pasteboard box with packing material and the coin holder in it's box, no other boxes. As a matter of fact the holder's box with the pretty printing looks like it had been opened several times. But the coins are beautiful.
