Right Conder, I looked it up myself some years ago because of the folklore floating around the web. As far as proof, they say an online auction or email showing the sale is sufficient.

Good to know on the tape, just need to find someplace around here to get it. Package value will ~16k (2 coins), want to do it right.

"Doing it right" in this case - considering the value - should involve video of the packaging process. And yes, I'm paranoid. Just because I'm paranoid by nature doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

If the value is going to be $16K, it will have to be sent Registered, that's the only service that allows for insurance over $5K. Fortunately Registered mail is very very very safe. But it IS slower on delivery, so don't get concerned if it doesn't show up as having arrived after three of four days. Registered can easily take a week or two for delivery, and a MONTH or more is not unheard of (but is unsual.)

I actually did video the coins going into the box. I shipped it Registered mail in a priority mail box. Postmaster said it would probably be there in 2 days, 3 tops. He was really picky about the tape, even added another strip on the "flap side". He knew what PCGS is..leaned over the counter and asked if I'd show them to him after they came back! Gotta love small town post offices!

Dont get in a hurry with Registered mail.I sent a package to Anacs on 2-3-14 and it hasnt made it there as of today. The usps doesn't track this type of mail just when it leaves and at the destination. I personally will not use it again.

The whole point about Registered mail is that every single individual who touches the package is on record by name. Just because you can't see all that information online doesn't mean it lacks stringent control. And good luck getting insurance over $5000 on any other USPS product.

At least UPS will indemnify $50k, but I don't know about Fedex.

But neither UPS nor FedEx will insure coins, even collectible coins. (It's in their rules) If they get lost you get the fee you paid for insurance back, not the amount you insured them for. I'll stick with USPS Registered for high value shipments.

Correction to my last post, FedEx has changed their rules and will now cover Collectible coins up to $1,000.
