Took your advice matthew and took a day off. it was kind of refreshing honestly. re-read about some of the "top 10" rarities from heritage. so far today nothing interesting found, but the night is very young still. (for me at least, I'm semi-nocturnal). do you guys consider the 1894 s to be a proof or business strike? I'm not 100% positive but I think I saw david lawrences son on the pcgs board say he considers it a business strike, so did the tradedollarnut guy who seems to be a big fish as he claims to have owned one. what are your thoughts? to me it doesn't really matter collecting wise as I think it most likely was not made for circulation regardless of production method used so I don't need one to complete a business strike set any more than the "specimen" strike coin from Denver I saw on heritage and since if its a proof its a presentation strike I also don't consider it needed for a complete proof set.

Justin, Happy to hear that you took a 'day off.' The marathon/sprint analogy is important to remember, for any of the Barber Series can get bogged down. Especially in the higher grades. I'd hate to see you burn out.
Along the journey you have met other collectors of the dimes and have enjoyed their advice as well as mine. We are a small but dedicated bunch of folks. And you have earned the respect of us all.
And other bit of advice: When the going gets tough, take out your dimes and enjoy your progress so far. It keeps me grounded and focused. I never tire of looking at them.
Good luck in your ongoing endeavor.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1895-Barber...p=true&rt=ncDoes this coin look original to you guys? The rims are oddly a lot worse on the front than the reverse imo but not too bad overall. I would give it a g4 too. the buyer looks to have gotten a fairly decent deal on it. I could of seen it going up another $20-$30. If I had been in the market I think I would of been willing to go $67 plus the $2 shipping.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/13114092398...RK:MEBIDX:ITlooks like he gave up selling it as a buy it now. any speculation on whether he gets any kind of premium for his claim of it's a 1893/2? I am uncertain myself. I could see it going either way for him. some buyers on ebay are too trusting and I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them got in a bidding war over it and bid it over 1893 money thinking they are getting a deal on a 1893/2. I could be wrong but I'm very skeptical its a 1893/2, the close up doesn't look right to me for one of such high grade. I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts on if it is or not still though. Also, got my $150 for the coin fund from this check in dimes. 1 1961 p rosie. No killer score this time but I'm satisfied with my find for the amount I went through.

Considering the huge value difference if they were positive I don't see why that wouldn't have been resubmitted. If it was resubmitted and they still say no I'd say it's not. The pictures are just clear enough to think it could be but blurry enough to not be sure.

If you're serious about Barber dimes, Kevin Flynn's book is the one you buy first.

Thank you ssuperdave, I am going to purchase it shortly. I have seen semi mixed reviews on it but to me it seemed more some people were expecting it to be a different style than it was and didn't care for it because of that but wasn't sure. However I highly value your opinion and its pretty much all I need. How would you compare it with david lawrences book? I'm dying for your opinion on the "1893/2" I linked to.

baseball, does pcgs still do the variety? If I'm not mistaken I think I saw that ngc no longer does. Have they changed position on it maybe?

I guess this thread has died. oh well, I tried. I think the forum might be seeing an increase in the number of Barber dime related threads here soon.

I don't know about the price but MS64 looks right to me.

I couldn't find much back history of prices for 64's. 65's have gone for 1800 up to 2200 while the 63's I could find seem to be in the 600-900 range. so think that starting price is probably fair. For my purposes I don't think this coin would fit my collection, I'd rather have a 65 for more.

I'm not sure about if pcgs still does it or not, I'm sure you'd have to call about that since it's not an everyday problem lol
