Does that mean you think it's duff? Looks perfectly ok to me.

Let me start again.... I am the seller, I listed this coin about 3 months or so ago. In that time I have turned down 4 offers on it. The Greek guy is a buyer interested in the coin and sent me an offer of 50 gbp, telling me he is a collector and it is a fake. I have it in hand and can see nothing wrong with it hence the posting of it here.

Sounds like he is trying to convince you that the coin is fake so he can get it on the cheap. I would just ignore him.

No-one spends £50 on a fake, he's having you on.

I'm familiar with Owl Tets, and I don't see anything that raises flags. It's just harshly cleaned, imo.

Looks fine, I went through Forvm's fakes pages also just to see what's new in the world of fakes just to be sure. It's been pretty roughly tooled though. The rev has more marks than the obv (look below her chin and behind her neck).

Thanks guys. I know it has some tooling, but I hope I have allowed for that and that the price is about right. My main concern was having a coin for sale that wasn't right, thought I had missed something! Might be one that I keep myself, I like it and that, I suppose, is the main thing.

Quote: I am Greek collector from Athens. Collecting ancient coins is very strictly controlled in Greece. You can buy and sell the rights to be the custodians of certain specific coins, but you can't buy and sell the coins themselves. Old private collections can be maintained (if they are registered with the government) but not expanded. What this person is trying to do - buy an ancient coin off you and import it - is against the law... or it would be, if the coin were known to be genuine. Perhaps this is why they allege the coin is fake. Buying and selling fake ancient coins is perfectly legal in Greece.

From what I understand, the Greek government is notoriously lax in its enforcement of these laws. The main problems you run into are with trying to get coins in and out of the country or when they decide to (try to) repatriate coins and antiquities back to Greece.

Kevin, I see nothing wrong with your coin. I do think someone is trying to screw you over. Who would offer $50 Gbp for a 5gbp fake, IMO the proof is in the pudding.

I am sure the coin is genuine but I was genuinely concerned that I had missed something. If I ever come into possession of a bad coin, it is either given to someone that is making a 'black' collection or melted for the scrap content. It's always pleasing to know I have people here that are genuine collectors and will always give an honest opinion, so again, thank you!
