So to basically grade my coins it is all about scratches and dints?
And to do this I would tilt the coin so it is as clear as to see its condition?

Hoping very much I am writing the obvious.

So in the minting process of these coins they bounced and crashed together on their way to being rolled in a wrapper by a machine?

It never hurts to ask the very experienced when one is very inexperienced.

Also quality of strike is important as well.
This is quite easy with uncirculated coins.
When trying to grade my A Unc or lower grades it gets tougher due to the amount of wear, remaining lustre and how the coin has been affected environmentally .
BTW I am FAR from being an expert when it comes to grading .

Thank Heaps trout!

At least I am on the track. It sounds like a long way to get a hold of the coin grading concept.

Can see the finite would be a full on specialist event.

But it is good fun having a go!

trout in which way was your coins of a lower grading level that you have mentioned?

Most of the coins in the 2 rolls I received were pretty bagged up.
Which is a bit of a shame as with a low mintage AND the dealer preference for distributing these coins you would think That RAM would have taken some care and attention.
I am in the process of setting up a new Camera set up and will post pic's of the defected coins ASAP.
When you are looking through these types of rolls not only pay attention to the high points and the fields , the Rim gets marked up as well and this will also lead to a lower grade.

Hi just wondering would it be better to just keep the coins in the rolls? Would this make the future value much higher? Thanks

It will protect the coins well enough. Putting the rolls in sealed bags may be a good idea too as they will keep moisture out.

Hello guys just a quick question on mint rolls, In many mint rolls that I have come across I have noticed that the two coins on the out side tend to lose there lustre over time.

Even though they look ok to the eye at first but when you open them it is very noticeable that the two coins on the outer faces have definitely lost a lot of lustre.

Is there a way of preventing this from happening , Maybe stuff them in tissue paper or similar.?

I have bought a few rolls of this 2014 MOR. and would like to just put them away for my kids with the rest of my stuff I have been saving but would like to protect them best I can. I also read somewhere that tissue paper scratches the coins is this true. Thank you.

Just put them into a food grade plastic bag/sandwich bag or a new coin bag ( you get from the banks )& make sure they are sealed .

Wow! Just been looking at some 2014 $1 coin images on ebay.

Most are images that hide the condition of the coin.

One image of a single coin is used 5 times and has pits in the roos and very scratched queen's head and the rim looks to not be the best strike and has dint as well.

Digital magnifier looks like it is going to get a work out on my coins. I will put some stiff clear plastic over the top of the coin and have a good look. Looks like magnification tells no lies.

I have got 3 lots of coin rolls from three different bulk sellers. Thought It might get me three different parts of the minting.

These coins under large magnification show the coins to have the look of a sandy beach....so pitted and scratched. It is quite shocking!

So I have now put one roll into 25mm clear capsules.

Some of the coins in the roll look to be not too bad but some would have to be described as circulated!

I just bought a 2014 MOR $1 at the Melbourne ANDA show. Cost me $3.50 and I was able to cherry pick the best one. Very happy with the result.

If the entire 1 million mintage is on rolls sold to dealers then I don't think this is going to be a rare coin.

Just playing with numbers.

50,000 rolls. Half get broken down that's 25,000 rolls. More than one roll per collector that's 10,000 rolls.

What about the people noodling. Replacing the 2014 coin set that has the $1 with every 2nd roo with fur.

Biggest issue I can see is if they mint another 20,000,000 of them by May next year.

kg5 , it doesn't work that way. There is only 1 mill minted of the 2014 roo design, the 20 odd mill will be the Anzac coin.

Those numbers have already been set in stone buy the mint so it wont change in fact minting of the 2014 coins is already complete and the 2015 issue is already in progress.

As for them being in mint rolls yes they are but the entire 1 mill will not be sold threw the coin dealers they just get first shot,(money spinner).

They will be lucky to move a quarter of that with the rest going to Chubb armaguard etc for circulation OH and the mint always hold back some for years to come as has been proven with many coins pre decimal and decimal even though they wont admit it, this will happen late this year or early next year about the same time you will see the Anzac coin in circulation.

As for quality it is just a coin made for circulation so the mint isn't going to take any special precautions in looking after them they just spit them out in to a stillage and then pack them in rolls. So rim knocks and scratching is inevitable. But that's what makes a coin rare the odd one that gets threw un scathed.

Thanks for taking the time to explain sweetap!

Very Well Said!

These rolls are starting to get very expensive!

The bulk roll sellers are leaving the selling arena by the looks of things. Sold Out!
