What Are The Forum's Thoughts On The Gold Bison Coin?

Hi guys, thank you for everyone's thoughts and opinions.

I like to add gold coins that I think are unique, in terms of appearance, theme, size, those are at the top of my "like" list.

While it is not important and not something I am counting, IF it increases in value, sure that would be nice. But as we know, coin values come and go and mostly the flippers win at that. But again, thats not of great importance to me.

My thing is I want to branch out to unique gold coins. I just have too much of the common types. I was considering the gold somalian elephant... but ,,, I LOVE THE SERIES... but its being too common in my opinion. So thats why I decided against it. Thats why I am looking at coins that are unique in series and catch my interest.

This gold Bison coin, just what catches my eye and interest is the setting of the bison, they look very realistic and well done, I like the detail of the bird in the front,, it just looks very well made and to me that makes it unique.

Now I just looked at Gatewest and was thinking of ordering from them as I saw they had the best price but I see its sold out now lol I liked the price and also felt comfortable with them because I have ordered before from them and was very happy with their service so I feel comfortable.

I haven't ordered from any other dealers this type of coin, any suggestions?

Have you considered a change of tack ?

You could get a nice medieval gold coin of England or a European country or several mint condition Byzantine solidi (plural of solidus) for that money.

And, because they're not being made any more, probably a better investment.

Thank you for the kind comments, glad to hear you are enjoying and learning from the thread I have in the PM section, my whole intention has been to find out where gold and silver are going, and at the same time, showing how prices repeat, how markets give clues and confirmation of what it wants to do and when its doing nothing. Hopefully, by repeating the same things over and over and showing how it works, everyone can understand better what happens and that price action in all assets, such as gold and silver are not some mystery but rather actually pretty clear in what they want to do or dont want too.

I did check out Colonial Acres, they are sold out, Canadian Coin and Currency does have it appear they have it in stock, tho not as a good as a price as Gatewest had. I think Gatewest wanted just shy of 2400 bucks, USD. I been looking on ebay and noticed Talisman has them but forget them heard too many negative things and they want way more than other dealers for this coin. I am going to follow up and check out those two other dealers you mentioned and see whats cooking if they have this coin. Thanks for those two suggestions!

Well right now I am more interested in modern coins. I however do want to add at one point an elephant denarius but for now my focus is only modern coins.

thats a pretty interesting point you make regarding if I had to part with it and it being hard to unload. I know thats been a common theme from some other members here on this thread. Thats also a good suggestion you make that a series with a smaller size makes it easier to keep collecting, instead of almost 3K a pop, which is a very good point lol. thank you for bring that suggestion to my attention.


I still like this coin... but now after reading this thread and looking around, I still want it. However, at this point, I dont want to give the full RCM price for it, especially after seeing GateWest offering a better price than most dealers.

In fact, I would rather be patient and stalk and wait to see what comes up on ebay...

I'll keep you guys posted on what I find and do, in the mean time I am throwing some other ideas around of other gold coins to perhaps look at in case this coin becomes hard to get and while I wait for the price I want to pay.

is 2412 USD.. I wonder whats shipping, that comes in LESS than other dealers. thanks for that info!

so I have seen this coin on ebay come in for less than the RCM price, and snatched up immediately lol. Saw it on APMEX, snatched immediately lol...

but I dunno,,,, I love the design but I just feel if I wait more, once again, that I have get it for way less.

its like, I can make a wish list, and stalk all the time, Ill find what I want at the price I want and like lol

well yea,, I mean its a nice coin, I think "junk" might be a tad, say harsh,, but I do completely agree and understand your sentiment and I stand with you.

Its clear supply is outpacing demand and the RCM is going to pay dearly for this. I think the straw that breaks the camels back is if/when gold and silver prices drop harder, if this scenario continues, people are going to be completely put off by over priced coins that continue to slide in the after market because I think the vast majority are buying coins with the hope that prices will rise and that they can cash out later.

I think our wonderful community here knows that you buy what you like, but outside of there, which I think is a much larger pool, are buying with an eye to having a return on investment. Sadly for them, only a handful of coins can do that.

That said, I LIKE this coin, one of my favorite gold coins put out by the RCM. Thus far I been seeing them sell as fast as they appear....however several prices they went at were LESS than RCM's list was... and every time I have bought a RCM coin, for LESS then their list price, I ALWAYS END UP FINDING IT EVEN LOWER MONTHS LATER (capitals for emphasis) ... which is why I am balking at buying the ANA Maple Leaf,,, I like it but I think I can get it for less in a few more months time.
