Not using signature confirmation is a big no-no. PCGS would have been liable had it been snatched up by a neighbor!

By the way, where do you live?

Just kidding!

All of my returns (25+) from PCGS have required a signature ...

Suggest you call their customer service line and inquire why your shipment did not.

Good news on the update ... nice coin well preserved.

Nickelsearcher - No. My experience is not to bother with issues that have been resolved and waste MY time. I suspect PCGS does not really care. When I called them several weeks ago regarding status, they were completely worthless and didn't seem to care at all regarding my submittable. At the time that I submitted it, in addition to other fees they charged ME $27.95 for "return shipping fee". Was it worth it? Probably. Just letting the others know what to expect.

Regarding what was included in my package from PCGS there were three color 1 page ads soliciting coin consignment, a PCGS submission sheet, and a copy of my original submission form. Noticeably NOT there was a letter from PCGS regarding my coin. This is an unbiased report.

Bad new: USPS left this sitting on my doorstep for everyone to see (and steal if they wanted). This is a very scarce coin and it took me years to find in this condition, and difficult to value ($1600 or so is probably in the ball park).

It's just inexcusable PCGS would allow delivery like this.

How was it shipped? And how did you ship it to them? What service tier did you use?

Condor, this was submitted directly to PCGS at their booth at the Long Beach show. This was send to me via USPS priority mail.

Here are some before and after pics. Note, the before pics were taken a couple years ago, when I submitted back to PCGS the coin had many more spots on it than in the before pics.

Priority mail and $28 for shipping? Would seem there should have been insurance on the package then. Was it shipped insured?

I think PCGS self-insures but they still should add signature confirmation on a $1500+ coin. PCGS is saving a few bucks on shipping/insurance.

Any comments on the before and after pics? I was disappointed that PCGS did not provide a letter with the package with any explanation as to what they did -- lots of junk promo from others were stuffed in the package though. All in all it cheapens their name brand.

It looks like PCGS did a nice job removing the spots. I wonder if they had to remove metal to get the spots off? And if they did, would it ever grade problem-free again if graded raw? Just some thoughts.

Sorry to threadjack, but you'd be surprised what HA leaves without signatures. I'm sure small potatoes for them, but 5000$ purchases.

Can anyone confirm this? I don't submit so I don't know.

Was the purpose of this thread to drag PCGS through the mud or what? Yikes...

I have not submitted this year but have a dozen submissions to PCGS over the last 6 years.

PCGS does not buy USPS insurance and all my submissions were returned via USPS Priority Mail. The highest dollar value returned was around $5,000 and as I recall I did sign for that one. Most were in the mailbox with Delivery Confirmation only.

I would assume they have their own private insurance, the more valuable submissions I have had to sign for, but most I do not and they are shipped Priority mail with delivery confirmation- Looks like they did a great job on that coin!
