I honestly, didn't intend to go for a 70, because I agree with you. I was just looking for a mint capsule on at $30-35. This one just popped up and seemed like a "why not" if it went for cheap.

Also, the actual market selling prices on coins like these can be way under the PCGS/NGC price guide values.

I was comparing market prices. The specific coin is the 2002-P Proof Cameo Salt Lake Olympics Silver Dollar. Last two PCGS PR70's sold for $233 and $239. Numismedia has it at $250. The Anacp PR70 sold for $51 yesterday.

I think the auction results show the value of a ANACS holder opposed to a NGC/PCGS. This is palpable across most if not all series of coins.

Is this just reflective of people assuming ANACS coins are overgraded?

Yup. The fact that there's no truth in it doesn't seem to penetrate. At least, for any grade below 70 - PCGS is the only TPG which consistently grades 70's where I can't easily pick out disqualifying details in a Heritage image. So, aside the fact that I'm no fan of the grade or the coin, PCGS is clearly the best at identifying them.

That's quite a difference. That's why some nice coins can be had/bought in ANACS holders.

I think with ANACS you have to be more careful. I have seen coins in ANACS holders that were graded MS (not marked details) and look cleaned or over graded. I have only bought ANACS coins with a return contingency or if I see them in hand. My opioin is based on more modern ANACS holders (blue & yellow). The older small white holders I am a little more comfortable with.

That's funny - the blue & yellow holders represent a significant tightening of ANACS' grading, and serious Morgan collectors won't use any other service.

Like I stated, just my opinion. Perhaps all the tightly graded Morgans are in these serious collectors hands, which is why I haven't seen them on the market.

Not that ebay is the be-all end-all of the coin market or that Morgan and Peace silver dollars are the only market indicators. Briefly observing the top 200 graded/certified Morgans(PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG) recently sold on ebay, sorted by the highest dollar amount, show approximately 3% are in ANACS holders. Peace dollars are even less of this market share.

Looking at just these results, I think one could come to 1 of 2 possible conclusions.

1. If coins in ANACS holders are players in the TPG U.S. Silver Dollar market, there is a serious market bias of ANACS holders, poor marketing by ANACS, or top selling coins are not going in these holders. OR
2. The coins graded by ANACS are not equivalent to the coins graded/certified by the top two TPG companies.

I don't have a dog in this race. I am not a coin market analyst or a full time seller/collector, and really don't care what holder people put their coins in. I think ANACS holders are attractive, convenient, and their service is reasonable. However, I do know that I have personally seen more over-graded coins in ANACS holders, not as many quality rare coins in ANACS holders, and the collectors and wholesalers that I do business with do not value ANACS graded coins the same as PCGS or NGC.

Or, I could be the one forgetting that the plural of "anecdote" is not "data." I doubt either of us have seen a statistically-significant sample.

This for all you high premium dealers, who think PCGS is the best
I know someone personally who had a ANACs 2015 Harry S Truman coin and chronicles MS69, They broke the slabs open sent them to PCGS.
And they got back a MS70 Grade.
So for all you who say one is better than the other BULL !!!
You know the old saying never judge a book by its cover......

If your goal is any budget-priced PF70 coin, look at the recent JFK halves.

I got this one for $43 on ebay:
