Yes that's the one I just bought Silveroid with numbered CAO, thanks for the picture of the obverse,
another version of the queen on a voyageur coin, and CC has the other version, double dated.

Here are the specs on CC's 2003 Coronation Coin;

Specifications:
Face Value: $1
Mintage: 21,400
Composition: 99.99% Silver
Weight (g): 25.18
Diameter(mm): 36.07
Edge: Reeded
Finish: Proof

I am now a convert to the 1984 Commemorative, it is very similar,
even the front of the canoe design, the pose, a great homage to the original
in the heart of Toronto, clean rim, no denticle nor bead.

Was thinking of that coin when I was starting the topic.

Thanks Commems, Nice coin.

It double dated, but I really doubt, that this is the "Coronation" set, cause the "Coronation" Silver Dollar, is the one, that SilverDon posted at the beginning

Even though it was issued in 2003, the COA actually says "1953 Special Edition Coronation Set".

Here is one for sale though not in the best condition.

Thanks, guys, for your explain.

Looks like the single 2003 silver dollar named "Coronation", and the double dated 1953-2003 SD is only part of the set named "Special Edition Coronation set". And both Dollars different. Good marketing, RCM.

The Toronto SD - beautiful.
Thanks, Commems.
As someone who lives in the Toronto, will prefer to keep the 1984 SD rather 2011 2oz Toronto coin.

I was thinking the 2011 $20 for $20 Canoe is a take on the voyageur dollar. I don't have access to mine currently, maybe some one will kindly post a pic of one. Any comments on how the 2011 $20 canoe fits in with the Voyaguer theme?
Thanks to this thread, I've a new way to group these coins. It had never occurred to me to do so.

It definitely has a link to Hahn's original design. Here's part of how the RCM described the coin when it was released:

"This design shows a young person enjoying a recreational outing. The boy breaks from paddling to dip his hand in the water... and touches the past â€" the reflection reveals an early native paddler (or voyageur) in a traditional birch-bark canoe as it also appears on the early silver dollar of 1935."

I think it works well in a "Voyageurs" collection - good thought!

Of course, a recent RCM release that fits well in a Voyageur-themed collection would be this coin from the current "Exploring Canada" series:

@ Commems thanks for posting pics and describing both coins. I thoroughly enjoy reading and learning the history of each coin you post about. I hope one day, you'll consider doing a thread with the coins from your silver dollar collection, with their histories. It would be such an asset!!

You always put so much effort and thought into your posts on a coins history!! Much like a living enclopedia. You show how we can learn history in an enjoyable way. I'm a big fan of yours.

I want to eventually get this set. I just need to get my hip replacement surgery out of the way.
Then I'll know how much fun I have to play with.

The details on the coin you posted are very rich. How do you get such great pics, with such good contrast? Any tip?

Another from 1989, noted that they are Europeans in the Canoe with MacKenzie. The design on the front end of the canoe is consistent. I don't have this one but maybe someone else has one to post for real.

If you flip the 20 for 20 coin over it is a neat representation and a clear homage to Hahn's original work.

Then there's the gold version from 2005 1/25th oz. 50 cent coin

Thanks for the additional voyageur themed coins and for the wealth of knowledge Commems, you are helping us all to become more informed.

Here's my 1989 Mackenzie - it's one of my absolute favorites among Canada's SD series. In fact, this one was the coin that came to my mind when I first saw the "Voyageurs" coin in the "Exploring Canada" series. They share a similar perspective.

@pocket change 50/SilverDon: Thanks for the kind words about my historical posts and compliments about the accompanying images.

Regarding my technique for creating images: I use a scanner for the coins I present - I don't yet have a good digital camera. I scan at a reasonably high resolution (600-1200 dpi) and adjust the images by enhancing their contrast and balancing the brightness to achieve the contrast between the fields and devices. Each one is balanced on a case-by-case basis due to the variations in design of each SD.

@ silverdon, so cool with the upside down 2011 canoe, it's a very interesting veiw of the design, I never would have caught so fully. I must try the upside on my 2011 canoe coin. Those other coins are great too! I never realized there were so many takes on this one basic design. It would make an outstanding display on this theme.

@ Commems: thank you for the tips: I have a scanner app on my iPhone, I will spend some time experimenting with the options on it. Such great ideas & postings of images. Keep them coming please !!

@pocket change, thanks, it was your idea to include
the 20for20 coin, nice one, I was so inspired by this
thread, I purchased the '84 and '89 coins at a great
discount on CA yesterday along with 7 other Silver
Dollars. Mostly from the '80's. I hope your surgery
goes well and you don't have to wait too long. Best
wishes on a comfortable winter.

@ silverdon, I didn't think to turn it upside down, that was truly inspired. I hadn't really examined the flip image of the 2011 canoe. It's truly an awesome image. I can understand why it won COTY now.

Glad to hear you got a few more treasures at good prices. Silver Dollars are an inspiring and well designed series, with some outstanding treasures.

CA is a great dealer, I've gotten many bargains through them. Thank you for kind words regarding my hip surgery. It's temps at -20 and colder, where I'm stuck in my bed. It's tolerable with quality threads like this one to read.

Oh Pocket Change, I was wondering about your hip surgery. I'm glad to hear you have had it, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

When you're better, you'll be able to jump all the hurdles your mint rep can put in front of you with ease...
