Between CCF members I'd pay the extra $5; its an amount that wouldn't break the bank for me. It would probably be for shipping anyways.

That is what I thought, thank you so much!
The Beast's website doesn't list the AM mint mark, weird. [UMM]
I will roll up my change, go to the bank and tell him the money will be sent by the end of the week!

Quote: The Beast's website doesn't list the AM mint mark, weird D.Sellwood's et al "An Introduction to Sasanian Coins' lists 60 different mintmarks from 44 (including one unknown) mints. Don't forget that many areas of ancient coins are still 'work in progress' as far as research goes. The Beast's website indicates that the information provided is from a 1971 book of less than 100 pages. The mentioned book from Sellwood et al is from 1985 and roughly double the size. Sellwood has in the meantime issued a grand opus on Sasanian coins, but I haven't had the chance to look into a copy of it yet.

Forgot to add that copyright issues might play a role as well, to quote extensively from a newer publication would require approval.

I am eager to see what you get...
Which Khusro do you want to collect?

The second, the letters from Muhammed and all that, what a piece of history!

If you plan on collecting just mint legends on Khusro II, it wouldn't be a life wasted. Although fascinating you might miss out on the fabulous histories of the other Shahs.

Once the library starts giving me more hours again (Winter is our "dry" session) I might buy one of his daddy, they cost a bit more.
We had an awful history program in my HS and barely covered Canadian history lil'own ancient history. Once I get going I will probably branch off into Byzinteen and other Persian coins.
Reading leads to buying, eh?

Reading leads to buying. Buying leads to reading, which in turn leads to more buying. Next thing you know , you realize you know enough to be dangerous.

You can buy a coin of his daddy (Hormizd 4) for cheap right now. Check out the offerings of ECIN on vcoins. He has oodles of good Sassanian coins for cheap. Limited only by my financial reach, I would have them all!!

Well, it came in the mail today! I couldn't get a good picture of it so here is the one the seller sent me before I bought it. I love it and am selling off some weird odds and ends to help finance some good books on both the coins and the history of the empire.

I too am eager to see the reverse. Sassanian coins are fun to photograph, and can be tough. Many are preserved in high grades made of good metal that offer lustrous highly reflective surfaces. Very few ancient empires offer such large, higher grade coins for the common man. I really think you chose well in your collecting area, I look forward to seeing your collection, and working along side you in this field.

I cropped the image a bit, would like to see what the reverse looks like. These are a very interesting coin type to collect, I'm just starting with them myself.
