Between the two, the Vespasian denarius is the scarcer. This is what I would go with. It is a bit too bright for my taste, but has a very nice portrait.

Thanks for the replies . Still on the fence but leaning toward Vespasian. Future comments would greatly help.

Would go with the Septimus Severus, same argument as 'Dutchgulden' - the sacrificial implements reverse can be found from a few emperors.

That reverse on the back of that severus is amazing. I'd go with that.

Septimius Severus for me, looks like a nice coin & great reverse topic.

well, sorry AM, you're going to have to get them both.
seriously, it's a toss up and there isn't a right one or wrong one here. i'd do the vespassian, but that's because I don't have one of him. I also kind of like the surfaces a tad better. keep us posted!

I'd prefer the Vespasian. Those are neat priestly implements on the reverse.

Definitely Septimius Severus, that's a far more interesting design than the Vespasian.

I would pick the Vespasian.

I initially thought the choice was easy with strong favor in Vespasian. Then I got thinking about it and putting myself in your shoes. I find the reverse of the Severus something I want. I am a huge fan of the city of Carthage. I think I would go for the Severus. This might not be the best economic way of collecting, the Vespasian would probably bring more money on the resale, if the need ever arises.

It really depends what the main aim of 'Augustus Maximus' is. While both coins will appreciate over time, you are probably right with your assessment.

Well lets hope this is the right decision. I picked the Vespasian denarius. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
