Nuts. It was not bought from a shop, and cannot be returned for reasons that I cannot discuss online.

Here's a close-up of the date.

I see no problem with it. Teaching point here about the fact that grading and grading from images are entirely different skills, and the latter takes longer to learn even if you have the former.

See no obvious counterfeit markers. If anything, looks like it could have been cleaned at some point.

The close up of the date looks fine. The full coin shot of the obverse did make the date look "funky".

It could just be me, but the second picture of the date does not at all look like the date in the first photo. The general shape of the numerals don't match up.

I honestly don't think the close-up is of the same coin.

That's what I mean about needing to learn to interpret images. There's no reason for the OP to lie, as you've just accused him of.

I'm not accusing the OP, I just can't see how the close up is of the same coin. My thoughts are more along the lines of: wrong picture, perhaps?

Maybe I'm not seeing these pictures the same as you are.

Sorry if I offended anyone by what I said; I sure didn't mean to.

@Rollsearcher,

It is indeed the same coin. I too was surprised by how different the pics looked.

Are there any opinions on grade?

The date looks good from those last pics. I'll say EF45-AU50

The best way to confirm it's the same coin is the toning spots above the date. If you note, the obverse is lit from below, and the rim is shadowing the area below the date.

As for grade, it's a tough call from these images but I'm leaning 45-50.

The diagonal stripe pattern around the date makes the tops of the 1s appear larger.
I like this coin very much. Value? A good deal for melt.
XF-45 or so.
