Ptolemaic was my first thought as well 'echizento' but no, it's not the feathers of an eagle, the images are the right way up. It's not from Syracuse - ~20mm diameter.

There is really little to go on here.

I fully agree. But on the other hand, once you know it is quite clear.
I'll give it a little more time to see if 'Bob_L' or 'vermontensium' venture a guess, before I tell what it is.

No idea really. My first thought, though, was that the two horizontal bars might be either the base of a fire altar or steps below a cross potent.

Usually you are able to identify the oddest coins, but the horizontal bars are not what you had a guess at.
But have a closer look, it's not just two.

I'm really having a hard time making anything out. There's not a seated figure on top of those horizontals, is there?

Not a funeral pyre, is it?

There is something on top (to the right side something which can be recognised), not a funeral pyre but something bigger,

my first thought was a ptolemy, maybe with the aphrodite reverse instead of an eagle. but usually the ptolemy coins are convex and the obverse and flat on the reverse. this one looks concave on the reverse. similar to this philip iv (or perseus?) coin with a lightning bolt reverse?

Okay, an hour has passed.

It's a post-reform quadrans, not enough detail to determine which variety but the lines are a galley.

Yep, took me some time to determine the top line of the galley - then it was clear.

So, this is interesting, although I'm sure to no one else but me: I just noticed that I have 245 posts (well, with this one, I guess 246) here at CCF. I joined almost exactly one year ago, on 2/6/2014. I realize 246 posts is not a tremendous amount compared to some, but for me that's a lot...I'm much more of a reader than a poster.

But what makes it interesting for me is that, in checking, I see that this past week I apparently surpassed my paltry 238 posts at Forvum - that took me almost NINE YEARS to accumulate...I see I joined there on 6/11/2006.

I guess it's pretty clear which site I enjoy and frequent more. This place is fun!

Sorry, this has nothing to do with your post, Med. Just had to get this out of my system.
