I got my catalog in the mail today from Stack's Bowers for this auction. This looks like it's going to be a great auction. It takes place Friday, March 6th. They'll send a catalog to you free of charge if you request it.

Making the 5.5 hour drive! Have my eye on 1 coin...that plan will go to **** when I enter the bourse floor. Hopefully at the show early Friday, stay in Portland (good eats!) hit it again Saturday and head home. Been waiting all year for this one. I'm excited!

We are here and it is very quiet to say the least. You will not get run over in the aisles that is for sure.

There was a decent amount of traffic. Not wall to wall, but steady. A lot of dealer 2 dealer. I got there at 9:30 and left at 5:30 and almost every dealer said it was decent or better. Several said they had already made their show goals on Thursday.

One of the reasons the place looked so empty was that the Fire Marshall made them reset the show with FIFTEEN foot aisles. This means the aisles were significantly larger than the booths were deep. I'm used to local shows where 6' is generous.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a good retail day.

I'm happy - found a key piece I've been looking for, an 1852 3CS in XF. Shouldn't have been hard to find, but I was holding out for a nice one.

Oh and the convention medal is gorgeous...

TEC [The Elongated Club] was there to smashing success...

Overall a great show! It was busy though (at least the dealers I wanted to talk to). I actually only got to say hi to 3 out of 5. Got my coin though! Stayed pretty solid with only 3 purchases (could have been so much worse!)

Portland is a great venue but I wish the big shows would come to Seattle!

If you read the posting on CU from Governor Greg Lyon, Seattle doesn't want us. It's a long thread but worth reading... here - it makes clear the difficulties in scheduling ANA shows because of how poorly we fit the model.

I read it and also talked to some dealers about it, it's depressing. There are always options though. Tukwila, Burien, Boeing (always thought that would be feasible since they have their own small show), just to name a few.

New convention center in Spokane (I really don't like Spokane lived there a few years) but hey I'd go!

People are so off on the sizing, it's almost funny. Exhibit halls D+E at the OCC where ANA was is 93K square feet. Could we have used a little less, sure, but the 61K for just D would have been cramped... And that's 1/5th to 1/6th of the size of the Summer show...

So even Tukwila is too small. The whole facility is only 48K sq ft and parking for just 300 cars. The gym is maybe 12K. Boeing is just a gym, maybe 12K sq ft...

Even the state fair center in Puallyup is only 100K sq ft...

If anyone cares to remember there was an ANA convention in Seattle WA years ago at the Seattle Convention Center ( the CNA in Vancouver was also the next week). It was probably one of the worst ANA conventions ever. Granted the Coin market was in decline and other things just weren't quite right.
The Seattle area is very active as far as the hobby goes . The PNNA shows in Tukwila WA in the Spring and the January Boeing shows are always worth attending, and I might add are most enjoyable.
As to Spokane WA great community with lots of volunteer spirit. Smallest city ever to host a Worlds Fair and they did a heck of a job! Not so sure how active the coin community is in Eastern WA ,ID area.

I was actually thinking outside of the box and not the current small show venues for PNNA and Boeing, I've attended both.

Boeing has huge hangars probably a logistical and security nightmare sure. But they are big.

Southcenter has some huge spaces as well and Tacoma... just came from a Convention there...the Murano is nice.

The easiest solution for Seattle...Paul Allen... he's a history buff and I'm sure there's a facility he owns that's large enough.

Anyway...back on topic, The ANA Money Show in Portland was AWESOME!

Here's many dancing fruits in hope that the ANA returns soon to the Northwest!

Then the Saturday had to have been the most fantastic day in ANA history, because Friday and Thursday it looked like the International Morticians convention. That said I certainly bought lots of stock and met many old friends.

Saturday was okay...Friday was slammin busy for me. My wife and I actually ate lunch at the cafe there, (taco's we're pretty good, not great) and eyed and waited for an opening for a dealer I wanted to see and talk to, never did get a chance to say hi both days. Waved in passing, figure I'll see him at PNNA in May.

There were tables that were absolutely desolate and others that were non-stop busy both days I was there Fri/Sat. I scouted a few I didn't know and made a purchase at one (it was a nice surprise).
