Fred Weinberg had one a couple FUN shows ago that he counted 30 some coins. It was about 2.5/3 inches high.

I can't even imagine something like that leaving the mint or getting bagged.
Edit: I meant to edit that onto my last post =/ sorry

Thanks, never saw an error like that, would love to see the pic of the 30 coin that Mr. Weinberg had!

Quote:Do you mean this 1979D cluster that was auctioned off in 2012 at the ANA Bobby? Nope, this one was taller and less spread out. More "die cappish"

"3 coin bonded set"? I knew the Mint issued sets of coins, but I thought that they were aimed at the collector market ! Do they come in a Mint sealed pack, with a C.O.A.? Should they be sent for slabbing?

I have no idea how the system works, but it seems an elementary step to screen the press output so nothing larger than a normal strike could get through. They have to go through *something* to count them for bags - how does that something count a 2-1/2" coin?

Seem likely it something like that would be helped through the process to get into a bag. Idk but if they need a good quality control I'd take that job lol

My thoughts exactly. It's amazing how this got passed any inspection before it left the mint and as you said, "without help." If something like this was able to be known was helped out of the mint, would that make the error less valuable?

Conceivable. Means somebody got shortchanged.

Coop said it all in the 2nd post. I always thought that in 2001 starting, errors were more monitored and stuff. That's why you never seen any offcenter, MAD, or Blank planchet etc's from post-2002 coins. I've seen several, don't get me wrong. Those go for some decent money on ebay. Also die cracks I don't see often on post-2002 coins; but I did find a 2014 cent yesterday with a major die crack on the reverse going from 1 o'clock down to the top of the shield.
