Who, me?

This is VAM-14.1a, one of the more common 8TF's. And the lack of clashing on it is what would turn it into something spectacular; I think only two unclashed examples are known. Clashed, not so much.

Now. For the partial collar. I'm going to run down a couple folks to ask opinions. For the moment, don't lose this coin.

They're not exactly common on 8TF's, but without information I lack I will not offer judgment on rarity or value. I pinged someone who is in a better position than I to have an educated opinion.

A tilted partial collar on an 8TF is worth a premium. Not sure how much, but definitely a cool coin that would attract buyers.

Although seemingly fairly common on 1878-S, for instance, so far I've been able to find only one 8TF on the Internet, and it a full Railroad Rim. This cannot be taken as any sort of accurate statistic. Collectors tend to hold these things close to the vest sometimes. But then again, in a liquidation situation that works to the seller's advantage.

I wouldn't call this a very liquid coin, even though it'd probably put a smile on your face if you got it in front of a directed audience at the right time. It would rivet the attention of those who were accumulating Partial Collar Morgans, because as a 14.1a it's not particularly rare in the 8TF scheme of things so the variety wouldn't add any real premium in the 8TF context.

Get this one into a slab.

Dave who would you recommend? NCG orPCGS? I can see PCGS in person this Sunday here in Houston, however I usually send in to NGC.

TIA mitch

Pcgs slab if it were mine because you want to see as much of that rim as possible.

PCGS would probably call the Partial Collar a Details/Damage. NGC would call it an 8 Reales.

Yes, I'm kidding. Sorta.

PCGS will charge extra for it being a mint error if you want the tilted partial collar mentioned on the holder. ANACS still doesn't have a pronged insert, as far as I know. If you don't care if it's mentioned on the holder, look for someone submitting a large PCGS order of Morgans and piggyback onto it. Contact me off-list for details (use e-mail address on the homepage link in my profile).

messydesk... email me at home as to my (here on the forum's email, your not approachable (won't/can't receive emails from me):

I'm a transparent an individual as you'll find anywhere. ;-)

NopeNopeNope. Every scammer who can bring Google up on their computer will have your info by Midnight. This place is too efficiently indexed by Google to ever let a member publish that stuff. You're risking more than you think - it's $9 to tie that number to a street address.

I'll provide this to John off-site.

And unless they have changed recently that extra fee is $50 to put on the label what we told you for free.

If I spoke my true opinion of PCGS practice, the Bad Word Filter would make this post a blank block. They've pretty much defined themselves as the enemy.
