I guess I was a little unclear about the cleaning. I want to clean the piece & keep the enamel.
I'd like to clean this & then put it in an Air-Tite Plastic Holder.

I think the only way to get that fingerprint off is most likely a very shor 3 second dip in a 50/50 diluted silver dip. But I don't know if that method can be used "safely", even if done correctly, on proof like surfaces?

Ps, where's Peter Parker?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try a diluted silver cleaner.

Carnage & Venom ate Paker.

I wouldn't 'Dip' it myself, You might not be happy with the results done to the enamel. 'Dip' IS an Acid ya know.

To be clear though, I have not tried it myself. If you Do decide to do it I hope it works out. Please post the 'After' pics if you would.

After assessing the coin I used Battery Acid & a Sledge Hammer. For some reason I wasn't happy with the results.

I used Silver Cleaner, Water & Q-Tips. I'm happy enough with how it turned out. It's not perfect but it looks a lot better.

Sorry for the misunderstanding earlier.

I am glad it worked out of you.

No need to apologize. I wasn't very clear on what I wanted.

A couple of things need to be pointed out, here.

First, I'm not entirely sure what the OP is meaning by saying this coin is "Clad with .100 Mills Silver". This coin is not "clad" in anything; it's solid .999 pure silver underneath the enamel.

Second, for those who are unfamiliar with the coin, this is a Tuvalu 2006 "Redback spider dollar". This coin, despite being what some collectors might derisively call "modern junk", has proved surprisingly popular with collectors both here in Australia and overseas. They are fetching AU$1000 or more on the secondary market at the moment. Here's one that recently sold on ebay in Germany for 700 euro.

So please be careful when you give advice. The wrong advice in this instance could easily have turned a $1000 coin into a $20 lump of scrap silver.

It LOOKS better in the pictures, but maybe still would have better off left uncleaned, in this case.

Put it in an Air-Tite, and hope for the best.

I believe this one is an imitation, not an original.

You're right. Didn't look close enough.

A chinese imitation, perhaps?

I truly wish I had the 2006 Tuvalu. I bought this coin about 6 years ago. I got it off ebay & knew it wasn't pure silver. I didn't mind cleaning it because I don't have very much in it.

I have drooled over the 2006 Tuvalu many times but it has always been out of my budget. I have this coin & the Russian remake & that'll probably be the closest I get to the 2006.

There was one of these coins on ebay that closed yesterday (I believe) without a buyer.
