to CCF fellow Michigander. Kinda looks like something on it like glue maybe? It also looks like a VLDS.

That is the reverse. Again, the pic doesn't do it justice. It's crisp and bright red.

I have been reading other posts with similar errors. Is it possible that this coin was uncoated or mostly uncoated?

And HI! John1...thanks for the welcome. I am an avid coin guy, so I think our paths will probably cross a lot, now that I have found this site.

If I have an area of expertise, it is certainly not error coins. My focus is on mid 20th century US silver coins. Namely Walking Liberty and Franklin halves, but I also mess with quarters and dimes and also some Morgan dollars from the late 19th century.

If I can ever help with questions about any of these, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Oh, and as for my weird penny, there is nothing on the surface...no glue, nothing...that is just shading that results from my being a lousy photographer.

Best, Dave

Just some staining/toning. It is also a VLDS(very late die stage) The die starts to wear down as it mints more and more coins. This is usual what you see. Worth one cent, but worth much more in what you learned from it.
