Just return it
For this money, the item have to be if not the perfect but without issues detectable by naked eye.
It so bad...agree (means the quality, that due to it you had to return the coins).
Added: And what are the "spots" - they are on the coin surface (like milk spots), or again on the capsule, like dried water drops?

Hey Silveroid, I took the capsule off and yeah it appears to be dried milk spots or some kind of wash left over on the capsule itself. The coin is practically flawless, I didn't see any film or milk spots on it. I took some new pictures, as you can see, the capsule is filthy, but the coin is good.

Quote: Just a couple questions on returning coins to the mint . Is this an simple process? Has any one had a problem after returning a coin(s) to the mint? Was the credit card refunded promptly? I've purchase hundreds of coins from the Mint and have only ever once returned one. The process was relatively easy in the beginning. I e-mailed my rep that I received a defective coin and he sent me a postage paid shipping label. I simply attached the label to the original packaging from the Mint and dropped it off at the post office. The fun came later. I had asked for a replacement for the coin (it was part of a sub) but I expected either the Mint would send the coin promptly, or they would credit my CC and rebill when they sent the replacement coin. Neither of those things happened. It took almost two months for the new coin to be shipped and in that time, I was out the cash (I had paid my CC bill) and I didn't have the coin. That was frustrating but it got even more so. In the time that I had waited for the replacement coin, I received the final coin in the sub so I had an incomplete set. After about a month, I contacted my rep who was surprised that I hadn't received the replacement coin. He checked into it, and apparently, some clerk at the Mint had discovered that there was a billing error two years ago. They had decided that they had undercharged me for some coins two years ago so the solution for that was to not ship me the replacement coin (keeping my money) and not bothering to so much as contact me to discuss the situation. I was understandably not impressed. Eventually (about a month later), they decided to write off the outstanding balance they claimed that I owed from two years ago and send me the replacement coin. There was never a credit and rebill on my CC statement. Also interesting that in the two years after they allegedly under billed me, I had received and been properly charged for many coins, had regular dealings with my rep and at no time did anyone from the Mint contact me regarding their alleged billing error. Oddly, I have not been compelled to order any NCLT coins since this all happened.

@CC-Ottawa , seems like the mint is getting overwhelmed with the amount of coins they are releasing and can not keep up . I talked to my rep this morning and will get a return label. Will see how long it takes to get my money back. I cancel the rest of the sub and the rest of the coins I had on order. I think that from now on if I want any releases from RCM I will purchase on the secondary market at below issue, I am sure.

So not really for all the items, but for majority of them we'll wait. But since no one buying, where from they will appear with reduced price? Dealers....probably, but who except the CA makes kind of sales? Even CA sell for reduced price coins with defects or defective / missing packaging, or coins 2 years old and more.

I've had to return a couple coin's back to the mint never had a problem in returns, I've had other problem's with the Mint that took 4 try's, and only when I brought my problem to the attention to the President of the Mint. At the RCNA Show in Mississauga and I e-mailed him the details on the following Monday did the problem get fixed.

Customer service at the Mint is pretty good so you should have no problem returning your coin(s). The more fundamental question is about issuing quality product. On a side note... I personally think that the RCM QA employees are overwhelmed with the number of different coins passing through the production line.

For this, I not eliminate the possibility, that not all RCM coins or items minted / packed by RCM. Is it possible, that same facility manages to maintain the increased production for the period of 100 years? Even assuming that all circulation coins for Canada and other countries minted in Winnipeg, still the amount of NCLT and bullion is huge.

I am just in the process of returning my first coin today. I purchased the "Fine Silver Coin - The Universe" subscription and when I got the first one, I was appalled at how ugly and cheap looking it was. A piece of plastic glued onto a coin. I phoned and canceled the subscription and got a mailing label in an email. Off to the post office in a few minutes.
Other people seem to like this coin, so probably it is just me. I was looking forward to it since Astronomy is my thing.

It looked really nice on the mint website but I saw this coin in person yesterday at a Canada Post outlet and I probably had the same reaction that you did. Good luck with the return!

With each flock of new releases almost every month I wonder how this tempo can be sustained. At some point the buyers will be so overwhelmed and confused that sales will stall and ultimately the entire pipeline will jam.

I think it has already started, hence maybe why the RCM decided to go with the 1/4oz gold coin's. You can't flood the market and except everything to sell out, sooner or later your going to run out of excellent idea's to put on a coin.

Got my refund today, 2 weeks to the day. What happens to these damaged returns? Do they get melted and taken out of the mintage or sell to another unsuspecting buyer?
