I'm glad it's authentic, because the value is really good. First thing I'll do is send it to a TPG just to be 110% sure. I didn't anticipate the cleaning but it looks nice nonetheless. The price is somewhere in the $70 range, if it's lower than usual that's probably because the seller doesn't normally deal coins. What do cleaned examples such as this generally go for?  $70 for any 1886 V nickel in G or better condition is  worthy. |

This is a $500 coin if the surfaces are original. I don't understand why nobody else is concerned with those black patches; no clearer indication of a harsh cleaning has ever been posted at Coin Community. Something is very, very wrong here. $70 buys an FR-2 1886; only about 100 of the over 1300 of these Heritage has offered went for so cheap. |

Xf details, looks genuine to me. It looks like it might have had an old cleaning

SD - I revisited this one after reading your post.
I think this coin was mounted, possibly on a tie bar or a brooch of some sort.
The reverse at 9:00 looks like mount damage, and if you draw a straight line due east you find a hole or pit in the coin.
Cleaned, probably with silver polish.

Yeah, even as cleaned ex-jewelry I wouldn't ask less than $225 or more for it, and expect $250+. It, along with 1885 and 1912-S, are the Keys to the series.

If you can buy that coin for $70, please do so. That's a GREAT deal even with "issues."
