There are some extremely excellent Gothic Florin fakes around. I have to admit, I can't pick 'em.

It was purchased at Sheffield Auction Gallery, and below are the comments that went with the sale:-
1847 Victoria Gothic Crown (Edge: undecimo). Extremely pleasing EF with slight rainbow toning throughout. Two minor scratches on neck and hairline marks to field on obverse. Otherwise a wonderful and highly collectable example.
I have read on forums about how to tell a fake, and it passes all the tests I am also going to send it to CGS UK to get it authenticated just to put my mind at rest

I am sure you have seen this or a page like it but here is numista information regarding this coin: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces23740.htmllooks like mintage of 8,000 - yours is a higher grade. I looked up the auction house and it appears reputable but getting it graded is the best thing you can do. I also see what you paid for this and a rocking horse, it about the right value. good luck getting it graded and let us know the results! It is definitely a beautiful coin.

Quite a beautiful piece... I have a feeling the toning is much nicer than the photos show?

A great coin that is an easy AU by U.S. grading standards.

Coin was rejected for grading by CGS UK stating "Reject re-toned" So on advice for UK forum , I have removed the coin from the slab The service from CGS UK is not reccommened by UK coin collectors (now they tell me)
