My thought is that without variable adjustment the lighting will be too much. I don't use my usb scope as a result. Good luck either way.

It's actually nearly impossible for the lighting to be too bright. All that will happen is the camera will shorten the exposure time. Most often in macro shooting the lighting is so dim that exposure times are quite long. More lighting just means you will get more reasonable exposure times. Now, if you're running at 1/1000 of a second because you're blasting the coin with 5 1kW halogens, then it might be going overboard. Til then, more is usually better.

Taken with a canon T5 with 18-55 lens and screw on 4X macro adapter using a ring light.

What are the recommendations for a ring light. There are many to chose from, which one would be best for a Canon T1i? Thanks.

Wade, what type of ring light are you using? What is the model of the one in your photo? Thanks, Hamm.

One other question for SolomonValley. How does the ring attach to the lens? Thanks, Hamm.

Ham it comes with a selection of different sized adapters that screw into the threads on the front of your lens and then just clips on and off...easy peasy...

Thanks, SolomonValley. The only threads that I can find on my Tamron 90mm lens are on the inside. No threads on the outside. Will that work? Thanks, Hamm.
