VG Cleaned. Is the coin as dark as it seems in the pictures or is it just the lighting?

Quote: Wanted a large diameter quarter on a small budget, this is what I came up with....lighting was a little harsh on her You did well. It appears to be an easy VG8 and a doubt this ~200 year old coin would grade as details. Finding an evenly struck nearly full rim Lg. Capped Quarter in VG is always a pleasure.

@shadowtrooper78: Try adjusting the angle of your lighting/camera. Normal circulation wear is causing people to think you have a cleaned coin when likely it's fine. I've seen similar pieces grade problem-free hundreds of times.

I agree with VG8 and have a feeling your picture or lighting conditions are making it look not as nice as it really is.

It may be a shot in the dark, but I personally would use a q-tip coupled with some residue-free acetone to dislodge any crud in an attempt to reveal additional detail and to lighten the currently-darkened nature of the patina.
A grade change is highly unlikely but this process may produce a more optimal photo to the greater extent of what is possible with something as harshly cleaned as this one.

Panzaldi.. I don't know where you came up with harshly cleaned, This is a good example of a hard to find coin. I'd' like to have it in my collection .

VG-8, I'm not convinced this one was cleaned. I see some friction but it does not appear to be from cleaning.

VG8 and possible VG10. I truly doubt this CBQ is in a details slab. Very good eye appeal for the grade!

VG10. Old cleaning, just lightly wiped. Not harsh at all. Market acceptable for the grade, so it will get a full grade, not details. Good eye appeal.
