I don't believe there is any wear on this coin. sharp & nice strike , MS-63; On the fence with RB / BN . Obverse chatter keeping it from 64.  |

@BH - The chatter on the obverse mirrors made me think MS61 but a part of me figures I am off by a point or two and MS62/63 is a real possibility. I don't know where on this coin anyone would see a lick of wear. Its not an AU cent and is MS all day. The question is where on the MS scale. Either way, $28 was the price tag so I think I did pretty good.

Where is the wear on the coin? I read two AU58 guesses but no substantiation of the claims. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that what I see and what others see is being challenged with regards to the MS or not but I need more explanation to understand why there are guesses that bring the coin from a majority mint state to a coin that has been circulated to some degree.

May well have the surfaces and luster of a 63 or higher, but the uneven, spotty toning will hold it back. MS-62RB.

MS62BN may squeek RB but looks closer to BN.

Just my opinion, no biggie. But I did originally state why I thought so. Just calling it like I see it, as tempting as it is to drink the cool-aid sometimes. It's just a practice forum for grading  |

Apologies Ed, I should articulate myself better. I was asking what the high point wear was specifically. I am not terribly familiar with this series but I do like it and I am going to be acquiring more and would like to know where to look for wear.

No problemo. I do kind of chuckle within myself though, because I don't like it when I feel a coin of mine is getting beat up in the grading section.....and it has happened often  |

You put yourself through the grinder here, of course.
As in politics, it is always easier to be negative than positive when grading a coin, especially from pics.
Trust your eye, and separate the wheat from the chaff.
This is clearly a MS coin.

I'd rather have people being honest and telling me what I may be overlooking while blinded by "new coin fever." Sure, sometimes you find out you maybe didn't make the best call, but it's valuable knowledge for future purchases. If no one "beats you up", you'll just keep making the same mistakes.

Sometimes I hesitate to say things to people but if I am confident that the knowledge I am sharing is accurate as much as it pains me, I feel it needs to be stated or people will go out and continue to make the same mistakes especially when buying coins in a series you might be unfamiliar with. I think this is why the CCF is the best forum. It's tough love opinions on occasion but the education you get is worth the few ego bruises. |
