You might try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause for pictures, values and lots more interesting info. They can be found for sale on half.com, ebay.com, etc. |

Ahhhhhhh !!!! you are feeling the "force of the darkside"....  Send me your addy and I will mail off to you a few Aussie ones to rekindle your interest. As to where do you start, the posibilites are infinite...predecimals, decimals, NCLT's etc...then of course there is the question of budgets and how much you are willing to spend [:p] Greg Macdonalds " Pocket Guide to Australian Coins & Banknotes" is a highly recommended book to look at if you are serious about Aussie coins. It is similar to your " Red Book" and is not expensive. |

ah, yes.... budgets. *sigh* well, I'm just getting started, so I'm on a somewhat limited budget. but, that kind of depends on what I decide to buy - if I have to save up for a while, i'd be willing to make that sacrifice... |

Received your email with your addy..here are a few to get you started again...       The first and second coins are Aussie predecimals of 3 pence and a half penny...both in BU. The third one is an NCLT specimen coin in GEM Unc from the Kookaburra series The last one is a circulating dollar taken from a mint roll in Unc. Coins will be in the post shortly, but allow 2 to 3 weeks for delivery to your shores. Enjoy.......  |

Vast136 Since you are on a limited budget, youmay want to start with the Australian Decimals, they usually are fairly affordable. Look at the 50 cent pieces. Unlike American coinage they change often, there are many comemeratives, and they are available cin Circ, Unc and proof. Then of course there are the Koalas or the Kangaroos or the Kookaburras, sorry - I keep getting carried away. I promisedmyself when I started I would have just ONE subtopic of Australian coins that I would collect, but the others just keep calling out to me. ENJOY THE DARKSIDE- It is peaceful over here and we do not get involved with grading systems of 70 or even think about 100 We keep it nice and simple. I just picked up the 1999-2006 Lunar coins, which look so awesome...ooh, I'm going to be running to the mailbox every day! rggoodie, I definitely know how that goes! There are so many beautiful coins to collect - I can never seem to limit myself, even when I try. Personally, I think it's nice to have a little bit of a lot of different kinds. This seems like a good place to start. Another quick question - I was perusing the Perth Mint site and I saw some dinosaur coins. Where might I go about finding those? I think they're interesting... Thanks for the link to that site, lim118. It shows a great variety of coins, which is really helpful. |

The dinosaurs were minted by the Perth Mint for Tuvalu, they are not Aussie issues. Now and then you do see them listed for auction on ebay Australia. |

I knew I had two of them....took some time to locate them again Seismosaurus Giganotosaurus Obverse of the Coins From memory, I picked both of them for about AUD$13.00 in an ebay auction. |

You might look into the Britannias, 1 ounce silver. Also, absolutely beautiful.

Congrats vast/gary....  ...now only five more years of waiting to truly complete the series...  In the meantime here is something to whet your appetite..[:p] The $5.00 silver proofs minted by the Royal Australian Mint/Perth Mint for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
