This is one of two shelves where my coins from ancient Judea sit. Herod the Great, Mattathias Antigonus,Herod Agrips I, Alexander Jannaeus and a Widows Mite make up the top shelf.

Pontius was the first pilate.
He probably flew those early canvas and string types.

TMK 65: Actually, that is one of the nicest of it's genre that I have seen. I would love to have it in my collection.

Very nice display. Can you post pics of your other coins? I would also be interested to hear about the other artifacts.

At 185 posts (and growing), you're an old war horse here.

Ouch. And we know what they prefer to do to old war horses:

Okay. New thread it will be. But I don't just want it to be a show and tell. I hope we can discuss them and to that end may pose some questions as I go.

I have to practice my coin photography first though.

I can post more, yes.

Although I don't have many these are my Roman silvers. I'm looking over Faustina to add to my collection.

For bronze I have.

The first coin is from the region of Syria somewhere between 47 & 41 BC and is Roman. If anyone could give me more information I would appreciate it.

For Roman artifacts I only have a few.

Two glass Unguentaria one intact and the other broken. The broken one is a beautiful Roman blue glass example, They truly made some spectacular blue glass.

Three rings one a wedding and the other two are unknown.

A roman military uniform button. (it's really cool to hold)

There's more with artifacts from Eygpt, Greece, etc. I have some coins and artifacts from the Byzantine Empire as well.

Here is my finest Byzantine coin. Theophilus.

Hope I didn't over do it. I don't feel like pulling any more stuff out of my case right now. :)

On a modest budget I've put together the best stuff I could in two years. I look at my case almost every day. :)

The picture of the Byzantine coin doesn't do it justice.

Does that coin on the left look like this?

Pontius-Pilate Pontius-Pilate

I have it as "Antioch civic issue, early 1st century BC".

Though it looks like the legend on yours is different, so maybe yours is really from 47-41 BC. Mine is supposed to be earlier.

The front of the coin is very similar.

I tried to get a better picture but these phone cameras just are not the way to go.

I'm seeing lettering under the seated figure, which, IIRC, should be the date (off flan on my coin).
And yes, the legend is different. I recall being distracted by there being many similar types when I was researching my own coin originally.

Very interesting sir and very nice coin you have there.

So we both have a Antioch civic issue but your is older than mine.

Thank you for helping me out. :)
