Grades at least VF-25 or 30 in my opinion.

The reverse die crack has me leaning toward F-103a or F-103b depending on whether or not it has a rotated reverse http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/...7varpage.htm I hope someone with more knowledge will either confirm or point you in the right direction

XF45. I'm not sure this coin was cleaned. Even if it was I think its market acceptable

Personally, I'd have the seller take it out of that 2x2 and photograph it properly.
Appears to be in acceptable condition, nice addition to an early dime set.

I like it, but would request better pictures before pulling the trigger.

I think it's acceptable for the grade. Love the reverse die crack.

look at how bright the devices are
its cleaned and retoned over time
F-103a, cracked die.

It would not make a problem free slab due to the heavy gouge on Liberty's knee as well as the fact it would, in all likelihood, be called out as a cleaned coin.

Its way cool due to the die crack and scarcity of the variety but if it goes much beyond a couple of hundred dollars I'd pass. If you want an original problem free coin, save for it, its worth it and there are plenty of AU/XF 1837 dimes out in the market place. Its a highly sought after type coin. I can show you a handful that are much better choices to spend your money on.

Sure would like to see a close-up pic of the left obverse field.

Cleaned?......Maybe or maybe not. I'm not really sure. The only thing I am sure of is that I REALLY like the look of it. I think it is a nice coin and would love to have it in my collection for the right price.

It looks cleaned to me. I can see some wipe marks in the left obverse field.

Surfaces don't look original but maybe that is just the lighting in the photos. Certainly a nice, early example with lots of detail.

Now that you have raised the issue, I agree. There is also some damage on the reverse. I don't know if I agree about cleaning, but the damage makes it a moot point for me.

It is disappointing, as I like the coin otherwise. Most of the circulated examples of this date I have encountered have surface problems of some sort. I guess I will continue my search.

Thank you to all that responded. As always, it is a great help.
