Yeah it has a cleaned copper look in the photo ..
Few small dings , I'd say it's a EF 40-45 details cleaned and or damaged ...

Well I can't say I was aware it was cleaned but seems likely, it looked to me like an EF coin but I paid a VF price (the rim bumps dropping its grade in my opinion) I thought an attractive enough example though for a type collection.
If it is a details only coin I would be disappointed but it won't be slabbed so it doesn't really matter.
Thanks for the opinions guys...

XF details cleaned & rim ding on reverse regardless of cleaning or not would still make it a details coin.

It looks like a lovely coin. Sidetracking a little but I seem to purchase a lot of 'details' coins partly I must admit through inexperience but also partly because it means I can buy 'more coin' for my dollar (or pound in my case). One of my favourite coins for example is this bust half dollar :  Which I love but a lot of people wouldn't care for because of the hole. Well done on the cent. Sorry for the thread hijack. |

wait till you see it in hand and than compare color to sellers pics. Might look better. If so take some new pics and let us see them.

VF details, major rim damage, cleaned. Not a bad coin for a type coin set or to fill a date hole, if you can tolerate the cleaned-copper look.

OK when it arrives I will let you know regarding the colour.
Everyone except Paralyse seems to think EF details, and the phrase "major rim damage" seems overly harsh... yes it has some rim problems but it isn't like totally mangled.
So for less than VF20 money I think I probably got a fair deal but no real bargain.

Too bad about the harsh cleaning. XF details....net VF. Put it on a piece of wood in a window sill for about a year, flipping it occasionally.

Got the coin in hand now, this is my first large cent and I have to say I love it. The coin is so thick that from an image I didn't expect it to be quite as large. The style and feel of it is appealing to me. So I took some photo's in natural daylight. The colour in hand is similar to what I would expect from British coins of the same era.   The rim bump is slightly annoying, due to the weight and the metal the coin has obviously been dropped and that was the result. Overall though I am pleased enough... |

Amazing improvement in the color just by your pictures. Now that's what copper is SUPPOSED to look like at that grade. Well done.
