Yes, the $1000 note was once part of the Eric P. Newman Collection. It's a special for me. I really like notes with a history like this one. The $500 comes from the Holecek Family Collection. Another nice story, all higher denominations in this collection were bought from Harlan White. You can find this story here: http://www.coinbooks.org/esylum_v18n15a23.html

Thank you all!
To complete more of these sets will be much more difficult.
A few more sets are nearly complete. So for example 9 of 12, 10 of 12 and even 11 of 12 are already put together, but some notes I need are very expensive, but more notes aren't actually available. I'm afraid I must simply wait...

amrys, to emphasize my previous comments: EXCELLENT set and great provenance. I remember Harlan White and some of the great treasures he handled through the years (yes, I'm way over 40 - LOL). A really great . Well done, sir.

I'm trying to calculate the cost of acquiring all LGS notes (to $1,000) from all districts, and from all series (1928-A,B,C to 1934) that issued LGS notes, in certified 63PQ or better, and I'm thinking that would be next to impossible. But I wish you luck!

Coinfrog: To collect ALL LGS notes would be near to impossible indeed. That's not my goal. I collect all 1934 LGS notes, $5 up to $1,000, only in unc (63 EPQ/PPQ or higher), but without the stars. This is surely very specialized, but still easier than really collecting all LGS. To get all 1934 LGS notes may be difficult too, but not necessarily impossible I hope. Fact is I need 84 notes to complete the 1934 LGS sets. Surprisingly I was able to purchase 20 LGS notes in the last couple of month. With these new additions I've got actually 53 notes and that means that I need actually 31 more. Still some work to do of course, but with a little luck it's done some day. I'm afraid the $500 1934 LGS set will be the most difficult one. Actually I still need 10 notes, it's my least developed set with only 2 of 12. The second least set is the $50 1934 LGS set with 5 of 12. All other sets contain already 8 of 12 notes or even more. But I'm searching nonstop and every day is a treasure hunt!

amrys - Do forgive, I misunderstood your goal; did not realize you were concentrating on the 1934 series. That series is tough enough, but there are some real gulpers in some of the other series. Looking at the cat values, I agree the $500s will be the toughest, but there don't seem to be any real stoppers there, money aside.
