In my opinion it has AU50 details, but the reverse particularly has an unnatural color.

I'm fairly certain it was cleaned. The coins from this "mini-hoard" came out of Wayte boards & LOC books, and quite a good many of them show obvious cleaning, but that was the norm back then. I think this one did not retone very well especially on the reverse.

How much would that affect the value?

It's a higher grade R4+/R5 coin, so the toning would net it down a fair bit, but still has some value on the scarcity. I would say in EAC grading it's a borderline scudzy XF45, net VF35 or VF30. Penny Prices shows R3 (Heritage R4+/R5) -- and $200 in EAC XF45; a net to VF30 would drop it to $100. Still well over twice what I paid for it.

I'm just back to US Large Cents after quite a few years away, so my grading ability is not great. I would agree that there seems to be light wear on the hair. What caught my eye was the very odd pinkish colour. This definitely does not look natural. If it weren't for this odd colour, I would probably give it a 55, but with the colour, an EAC AU. It's a shame it looks like someone might have dipped this coin, as it really is a nice specimen. Caley Ann

In-hand pictures + strange die file lines on reverse (incuse) - ignore the cat hair obverse :)

Yes, it is an N-19; I can't edit my post.
