This is really cool. My input would be to do a Allies powers vs. Axis powers theme. Coins from the US, Great Britian and Russia on one side and coins from Germany, Italy and Japan on the other.

I would say definitely seek out one from each of the (major) Allies and Axis powers, and especially the coins made under German, Japanese, or Italian occupation--Occupied France coins are plentiful and dirt cheap. That 50 centavos McAuthror coin looks AWESOME! I will defiantly be adding that one to the list, as it goes well with the medal ribbons I have shown (they all have the pacific campaign medal, and one of them has the Liberation of the Philippines medal!)... And I will defiantly be adding an Axis vs Allies theme with more coins

Also, for the purposes of a display case, I would suggest an aluminum 50 pfennig for Germany--much larger and easier to see than the zinc issues, but it has the swastika, unlike the Mark coins. How firm are you on the dates? This is technically outside of the war timeframe, but I think it's the most "axis" coin that Japan produced: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces13956.html |

Was all that from a relation of yours from the war? My grandfather fought in the Pacific during the war. He fought on several islands and in the Philippines. We have paper money he brought back. He had Hawaii notes, some from Fiji, and Japanese bills printed for the Philippines(I think). He was a coin collector but I have never found any coins he would have brought back. Part of the collection was stolen so they might have been in there.
I think I might have to do a display like this so to get them out of the storage box they are in.

I think that my dad has one of the half shelters he carried in the war and his bayonet, but I'm not 100% sure. The rest of my relatives were doing other things... However, my uncle collected Militaria like this stuff when he was a kid, and I do belive that that WW2 medic field manual belonged to him when he was a kid! Anyways, the helmet is 91st Infantry 362nd Infantry Regiment, WW2 front seamed. It was reissued for the Vietnam war and has a name and date in it: "Frank Lufrano 1959-1965". Very interesting.... I to collect Militaria but only from relatives so far. I have metals, a doughboy helmet, a gas mask with bag and lots of photos from WW1 from two Great Great Uncles. Also metals, paper money, photos, a Military Police Badge and a piece of a Japanese tank my grandfather knocked out from WW2. I also have a Civil Defense Helmet, Flight Cap, and Field Book from my Grandfather and Great Uncle that was in Civil Defense. Wish I had the room for a display right now.

I like your display. If you are interested, I could send you some european minor coins from Europe that were minted in WW2. You would get them for free for your display (they are not that valuable)
