I just had a quick look at mine to be sure. It is absolutely without a doubt PL/MS-NC/Numismatic BU. Although a quick Google and ebay search turned up none of these in a slab, I can assure you, the finish on the original Confederation Loon Dollar that came in the RCM issued map set is in fact PL/MS-NC/Numismatic BU.
Also, note that there are plenty of certified 1992 commemorative 25 Cent coins in PL/MS-NC/Numismatic BU to go around which came from the same set...

Show me a PL/NBU Confederation dollar in a slab.
Why do think they are not listed in Charltons?

I don't have one in a slab and I don't need to have one put in a slab to prove its existence to you, the coin exists. I, and WildflowerAB have the coin to prove it. The omission of this coin in the Charlton catalog is an error (not the only finish omission/error). Look at the coin, not the holder.

It is not a catalog error.
Unless and until one or more is certified, they don't exist.
I surrender.
Let this forum devolve into a great source of misinformation.

DBM, do you mean this one?

I have a similar one (raw) and it most certainly is not a business strike (I also have mint rolls of this coin, so I do know the difference).

Three certified PL (NBU) 1992 Confederation loonies have been sold on ebay. Given their low value, it's not surprising that few are slabbed.

Dbm Most certainly there are pl strikes of this issue. used to have a map set with one in there. It's was not a business strike. Mirror finish like on all pl loons of the day.

the business issues are really nice but have striations in fields like on the prov quarters. Please don't say I'm spreading misinformation, they do in my opinion exist, I would never grade one, because no one likely cares about paying enough money for them.

I notice there are more than one type of map sets. The most colourful, the one I linked from CA was definately sold directly from RCM with the coins included.

But I also notice solid black and solid white ones listed on ebay. Is it possible that either of those two types were sold empty, much like collector cards, to be filled with coins taken from circulation? If so, that may be the cause of confusion.

DBM if you're interested I'll post my PL confederation loonie, the thicker rim typical of PL is very evident in comparison to that of MS circulation strikes.

Some were ones you assembled yourself with circ coins, some came in a sealed RCM plastic sleeve, those are the ones with pl loon

Okay, thanks for that Alan, that's what I vaguely recall as well. This type is the set from RCM with the plastic sleeve and PL coins.

I know the source for certain because I ordered two, one for each of my young children at the time. One of the sets is perfectly preserved, the other I think got spent at the corner store.

You betcha, that's the one one that would be proof like. The plastic seal even has RCM at the top. The black background ones are one u assemble yourself.

So yes, I am confident in calling it proof like. The loon is really nice mirror finish very sharp. Great buy at that price as well I think.
