It is in an ICG slab at EF-40, not details grade for cleaning for some reason. Other than the surface issues it looks more like a straight 35 to me, 30 if the grader is having a bad day but the better reverse should redeem it somewhat.

billjones - appreciate the link. It certainly looks 30ish compared to that. In my limited experience collecting I sort of discount photograde. There is just one example per grade and it seems like there are so many inconsistencies as you move up or down the grades for various coins. I'm basing what I think on just seeing other graded coins.
Although I am just learning so I truly appreciate the advice and especially the constructive criticism.
One more question - Are ICG so inflated where they give this a 40?

The short answer to your question is yes. Many ICG graded coins are over graded. They do get it right on some of them, but their standards are less strict than the two leading services.
What I am fighting is grade-flation. It is a trend that TPGs are using to drum up more business.

It looks like VF+ Details - Harshly Cleaned.

The ICG slab plus the "no details" for dipped bust coinage, (seems to be a trend lately,) is the reason I played along and went with EF40, and I was right. But yes, in reality, it's a VF details coin. Nice one though!

VF-30 Details, would pass. Not very attractive IMO.

I bought it in a moment of weakness to fill a gap. I figured if ICG says 40 it would at least be a 30 and worth what I paid. The cleaning part is the unknown of course. Non returnable also. Oh well, live and learn.

Just remember, any white silver coin that is 150+ years old has been dipped or cleaned.

Do NGC and PCGS generally ignore cleaning on Bust coins as long as there are no surface marks? I have seen many relatively white coins that certainly looked treated in some way but were in regular graded slabs.

It appears to be an O-107 R2.
