I can't see any blemishes on this coin.
Must have come out of an uncirculated mint set.
Freshly released uncirculated business strikes always have at least some bag marks, this one does not have any.
Without being able to examine it for edge milling damage,
MS68 to 70.
Could even be a specimen strike; all detail is sharp.

The highest graded 1972 20c on the PCGS Population reports is MS67+, There are only 3 coins graded at this. It would be nice if this coin was one of them  Edited by trout1105

Looks like I am forced to drop my estimation of grade to "MS67+" !   |

Looks like everyone was very close or bang on. They graded it at MS67 - I thought it had a shot at a 67+ or even a 68. It's a little low on luster which I think held it back from the really high numbers. One of the best business strikes I've seen as you say Sel, its extremely well struck.

These are very hard to find in high grades because of the nasty mint set PVC wallets the coins were housed in . Well done on the MS67 grade |

crack ..... you say crack 68 ..well is there a crack near the platapus nose going out to the rim a faint die crack maybe .or just me seeing things

With the exception of the 2002-2009 coins that have been graded at MS69 Which I suspect to be Wedding set coins anyway and these are most definitely NOT your standard circulation issue finish coins. Getting a MS68 or better grade for an Australian circulation design coin is incredibly hard. MS67 is pretty much as good as they get, So I wouldn't feel to bad with your MS67 grade for this coin at all  Edited by trout1105

That "Crack" looks to me like a different streak of colour in the metal, Not unlike the "Woodgrain" effect on copper coins.

Thanks Trout, yeah I was pretty hopeful! The coin is en-route back to Oz so I'll have to take a closer photo of the region when it arrives back. I think that its a streak in the metal rather than a die crack but will post up a photo when I can.
