Looking forward to seeing the new coin in hand and for commems to put it on a scale.

I did order the coin (one of my select non-SD purchases) and will definitely weigh it once it arrives. It may be a while, however, as it takes longer for coins to make it down to me here in the US than to all of you "local" collectors in Canada.

I still got to say that it's seems a very quirky coincidence that back in February Commems wrote an excellent feature post on the 2007 $8 Chinese coin and then, low and behold, in June a partner version just happens to be released.

Commems, so it seems you might have pull and therefore I wonder if you might be interested in illustrating the virtues of the 2014 $20 Stained Glass coins - the Craigdarroch Castle and Casa Loma - the remainder of the series then disappeared into never-never-land?

Just joking but considering the two were not a major hit at the time, to my way of thinking historical glass windows really ought to be just as popular as the similar technique used to highlight the colourful segments on the Pysanka Easter egg.

I think NCLT releases that link with others in the past are an excellent way to keep the hobby a little more interesting!

If only it were true that I wielded such power and influence! Sadly, I do not.

(If I did, there would be no painted SDs!)

I agree. It's only when the number of connected coins grows too large too quickly that there is a problem.

I'm hoping the RCM doesn't suddenly go on a "square hole" tear and release a slew of new issues and thus diminish the novel nature of these. Another one in a couple/few years - fine. Three more next year - not so good!

Yes it's going back to the Mint. Nasty scratch right on the Yin and Yang.

Too bad about the scratch. Otherwise, a beautiful coin!

A question was asked on the RCM site about whether this coin was a complement to the 2007 release and whether more were on the way. Here's the RCM reply:

We're pleased that you like the Tiger and Dragon Yin and Yang coin. You're right; this coin complements the 2007 square-hole coin and not intended as a series. If it proves to be popular with coin collectors, we will likely follow up with a third coin in 2017.

My translation: the RCM already has a "square hole" design in the hopper for next year and will almost certainly be issuing it.

Thanks commems. That is disappointing but not surprising. It's too bad that the Mint does not seems to understand coin collectors.

I understand the RCM reply as "all is possible"
without getting clear answer, which they tried to avoid.

and the phrase above is too generic, since serves all the public circles, but not the collectors.
Collectors of any type, usually prefer the items not to be repeated.

My 2016 coin arrived today. I used the same scale and setup as I used for my initial post, calibrated it the same way as I did previously, put the new coin on the scale and held my breath -- literally, as I didn't want to breathe on the coin and potentially have any tiny water droplets fall onto it!

It weighed 20.87 grams - within 0.01 grams of the RCM's listed 20.86 grams weight for the coin and well within accepted tolerances (and/or my scale's accuracy).

So, it seems rather clear (at least by my measurements) that the weight listed for the 2007 "Chinese Coin" on the RCM's web site is incorrect; the coin does not weigh 25.18 grams. And, unless my coin is a complete aberration, the correct weight for the coin is not the 23.99 grams specified on the coin's COA either. I've weighed my 2007 coin six times, each time the scale has read between 23.02 and 23.04 grams.

Anyone else have the 2007 coin and access to a scale? It would be great if someone could corroborate what I've found with my coins.

BTW, the coin is well-done and attractive in hand.

I received my Tiger & Dragon Yin Yang coin today; as anyone else noticed the square hole is a bit rough, it looks like it was filed out by hand?

Yes, same as with the 2007 coins. There is definitely some variation in the square hole from coin to coin. From images I've seen, some look rougher around the interior edges than others.
