The show was Touch, starring Kiefer Sutherland, who played Jack Bauer in 24.

It was a short-lived series, only two seasons (26 episodes total). It was okay, but the time was probably better spent with your coins.

I like the idea of these coins going to someone who will appreciate them... I think I might come up with a contest for young collectors... I will try to come up with an idea within a few days and post it in the contest section...

I have been thinking about doing a YN giveaway of some kind. I cannot decide if or how it should be limited to YNs. I wanted to offer several chances for YNs to own something hard to acquire for their collection, like a key date. It seems to me stuff like that is harder to acquire for many of them. I was actually thinking of organizing a running contest for YNs. Something that works sort of like jbuck's Guess the Price, that is challenging and educational.
In other words, I would be willing to assist/organize something with anyone interested.
I was also thinking, what if we started a sticky soemwhere for YNs to post want lists? How could we get something like that going, so that members could find them all in one convenient location?

HMMMMMMMMM. Looks like the idea of putting coins in a playground or park got lost. On another coin forum some years back they had one. Didn't do well since on the internet you really don't know if someone is a YN or just some person of any age playing around to get something free. Think about it. How can you have a YN giveaway if you don't know who is a YN.

@carl
Someone on THIS forum? I look at it like this: if there is someone hanging around here who is desperate enough to pretend to be a YN and take coins from them, I say let them have it. If 1 coin in every 20 given away were taken by some poser, it would be worth the other 19, no?
Oh, and carl, you really do need to slow down with the posting. You need to make it stretch at least until July 4th, remember?

Carl- several members posted points of view that made me question if putting the coins in a park would have much chance of achieving my goal, that is, to get a child interested in numismatics... or strengthen an existing intrest...
The more I consider the park idea, the less sure I feel about it... Part of why I posted here before actually doing it...

There are numerous other ways to spark interests in coins. One thing I do is ask dealers at coin shows for any used Folders or Albums. I usually get some and then take them to a nearby school. They pass them out to kids free. May or may not work but worth a try. I also take some to a nearby church and they also hand them out to kids. One more small thing to try is accumulating lots of old, not to valuable coins and pass them out for trick and treating on Halloween. A YN giveaway on this forum may be fun too but from past experiences, not to successful. Things like this may not work but lots better than hoping someone will find a coin and become a collector.

I thought schools, too. If you have a friend who is a teacher, they would probably love the opportunity to organize something around coin collecting.. teachers love stuff like that.
The local library is also a good place to go. Ours does lots of neat extracurriculars and giveaways.

Library ! -- Instead of a park, strategically place them in the "kids books section" ... there's usually even a reading table...toss a few Wheats on the table in 2x2's so they might second guess spending them.... Just a thought. ..

I like the library idea. Maybe try slipping some 2x2s into some of the books.
