I started to colect "nazi" germans coins when I was a boy. Some I got from my father, some from grandfather. Some from digging near my home, some from auctions. It was my first idea for colection. I have about 422 pieces - diffrent date and mint and a lot a lot of double. Also some rare type.

Now after 25 years of colecting I change my idea . Maybe this part of colection will finance a little my OFEC work.

@Hello there

While I do not have all commemorative coins of the Weimar Republic on my website I do have all Third Reich coins including mintage numbers and also all Weimar Republic circulation coins with mintage numbers on my website as a catalog with KM numbers: www.oldgermancoins.com

It might help to to check what coins you need in order to complete your collection.

Are there any folders or albums available for the series or are 2x2s my only option?

I only know of one folder for 3rd Reich coins that is available in Germany.

As I do not really like folders and 2x2s I story my coins on trays of which 10 fit into one box. These trays come are available for several coin sizes and they do not take up that much space.

As you can see, almost all different non-commemorative types from the German Empire to the Third Reich fit in there as long as you collect by type ;)

Should I be on the lookout for fakes?

To be honest I have never seen a modern counterfeit 3rd Reich coin.

On the other hand, the Weimar Republic coins... the oak tree 5 RM seems to be a favorite of the Chinese.

Yes, Weimar commemorative coinage is expensive and there are quite some counterfeits. You should buy these from a dealer who knows what he is selling.

Thanks everyone for the replies!
When the next show comes (this Sunday) I will be on the look out for my first WW2 German coin, hopefully someone will have at least one coin. I will search for the album/folder on the bay. This series is going to be fun and interesting to collect.

I have once found a fake Nazi coin. That was in Tunisia. The seller told me it was silver, but it was so light that it would blow away when you sneeze. Also, none of the Nazi coins bear the head of Hitler. None of them. In addition, cutting off small slices of silver and gold coins was a practice from the Middle Ages, not the Second World War. All in all, it was easy to identify these coins as fake.

When it comes to counterfeiting small coins in non-precious metal: I don't think it's worth anyone's time or effort to do so. Not even for our Chinese friends. For the silver and bigger denominations, I guess it's not on the radar yet, as I haven't seen any fake Hindenburg Third Reich until now.

Well, I looked online and on the sold items on the bay and can't seem to find the folder that was mentioned earlier, not even a picture of one. A picture of the folder would be greatly appreciated. At least I would have an idea what to look for.

Actually I've only seen 2 different types of 3rd Reich coin albums here in Germany. They also had some information about the events that took place in Germany between 33 and 45 but all those things were written in German. Haven't seen a English version of that yet.

An update.

The delete that specializes in foreign coins and currency wasn't at the show today. I think it has something to do with it being th 4th tomorrow. I will try again in 2 weeks.
