Any one else notice that the Mint accepts PayPal now?

The recent $3 will be good for guest from abroad....together
with the bottle of fake Maple syrup and some key-chain made in China.

Fake Maple syrup. Coffee mug with red Maple Leaf and Canada in
front, made in China. Really don't like that guest from abroad, just
being polite.

There is no mintage on these. Disappointing.

Why disappointing? The coin's final mintage will be based on actual demand for it and everyone who wants one will be able to get one.

This seems like a good approach for an inexpensive coin designed to celebrate Canada as it nears its 150th anniversary.

What's the downside?

I ordered mine mainly because of the 150th celebration year. But if the RCM drops the X for X format then my collection would probably stop there.

@canadian_coins: Beautiful image - as always!

How does the fairly busy design appear on the actual coin? Is a glass needed to see the details?

Once again Commens, I must agree with you

I'd like to see the mint get back to this. Take orders for coins, mint only to order and let the numbers fall where they will. If a coin doesn't do well at the mint, the issue is limited, and it's 'rarity' or value in the 2ndary market will go up. If it is a beautiful design, good price, and everybody wants one - the value will remain the same or fall...

That would make it harder to predict where a coin will sit in the future. True collectors will collect what they want, and not what is hyped up every other month.

I like the coin but I am quite partial to the packaging.
Coins in these blister packs tend to tone after a few years.
Is there a way to take the coin out (so that I can put it in a capsule) without damaging the packaging?

No doubt the coin is busy but I really like the look and feel. No magnifying glass is needed.

Unlike regular 20x20 I had to destroy the packaging (which is not ideal) to get to the coin. But the surface finish is far superior - once you remove the sealed plastic layer... Mirror surfaces, no spots, very well done!

However, I have mixed feelings with this coin. A $3 face value is a problem for me because this is a step back into the classic NCLT world.

So that no one takes it to the bank. The $3 face value is also less than the value of the silver. It would be foolish to cash this coin in at the bank or melt it for that matter.

I actually support the move away from the $20 for $20 coins.

Keeps those that take advantage of the system at bay.

I really hope this doesn't happen to the RCM in the future but I can't help but feel it's coming...

@wilsonwu89

You are probably right on with your assessment of the situation with these new $3.00 face value coins selling at the same price as 20/20 coins. I wonder though how they would do this with the larger face value coins 100/100 and 200/200?
