I don't tend to collect loose Euro coinage, but I would think the cost effective way to collect them would be in binders like these... be aware not all plastic is safe, this album is (it was a WHSmiths product 25 years ago) more recently I have used Lighthouse albums without any issue.
The only Euro's I have are in these two binders... I wonder if they can be purchased without the coins in filled yourself? It would probably work out not only costly but taking up a lot of space due to the numbers involved.
- after researching a lot of different storage options, I personally decided to use 2x2s in 20 pocket pages. If you are collecting all 8 coins from each nation, you can fit two and half nations per page. I would rather have this cheaper solution than pay at least $60 for two Lighthouse albums. They certainly look nice (great set by the way, DavidUK!), but those albums are difficult to purchase cheaply in the US. Another issue I have is when countries issue more than one series (I know the Netherlands, Spain, Vatican City, and Belgium already have more than one), you would need to purchase more pages.
It may not be quite as attractive of a display as the Lighthouse albums, but it's functional and extremely cost effective.
Thank you guys for the thoughts! I am going to look into the 2x2's in pages option. I really do not want to spend much money, as these coins are coming out of circulation.
I would suggest to look at Lighthouse inventory. http://www.lighthouse.us/epages/lighthouse.sf/ It's based in your country. They have virtually everything I need for euro collecting, including capsules, albums, presentation cases. If you wish tomorrow I can do a few photos how I organise my Euro collection
Ok, I took some really quick photos. They are bad, I know, but I hope they will give you some idea on how my collection looks like.
Firstly I store coincards, BU sets, San Marino, Vatican etc. coins in a simple box. Nothing fancy here.
I'm using the Encap sheets with a standard 4 ring binder you can buy in any paper shop for circulated commemorative 2 € coins in capsules.
Then I use Volterra boxes with 3 trays for UNC commemorative 2 € coins in capsules.
And lastly ... And what probably interests you the most - my circulated type collection. I have two Optima albums. The good thing is you can buy different sheets for them and 100 % customise your build. Here you'll see that on one sheet there is room for 5 x 8 euro coins from 1 cent to 2 €. Nice thing is, you get to decide what you'll collect, or rather what you'll choose to count as a type. For instance, Luxembourg has 6 different combinations of old/new map and mintmarks, so that country is taking up 6 columns in my collection. for me this is far better that pre-designed albums with flags and whatnot that tell you what to collect. Worth to note is that Optima sheets will not work with standard 4 ring binders. Better to let you know in advance.
Beautiful collection, Dagaz! I like the way you have it organized. I strongly considered the Optima pages but they were too expensive to ship to the US with their special binder. Thanks for sharing!
wilhelm41, since shipping may be cheaper to Europe, I would look into the Optima pages. I agree with Dagaz, the Lighthouse albums with flags are not easily customized, but the Optima pages are. If not, 2x2s always look nice
Thanks Dagaz! A very nice display. Do the coins tend to rotate much in the Optima pages? Or do they stay in place? I do like how many coins you get on one sheet with those Optima pages...
