The slab companies will only mention the type when two different types were issued by the same mint in the same year. This happened in 1854 when the Philadelphia Mint issued both Type I and Type II gold dollars.
As for the company that slabbed his coin, the white prongs say NGC to me.

Gold dollars are notorious for counterfeiting, and that dates back to the 1960s and beyond. I don't know what price level you are considering, but it will be more than either the of the other two types. The coin is not rare at all, but it is harder to find that the others because of the limited mintage.

Back during the 79/80 precious metal bubble Silvertowne purchased thousands of 12 coin US gold type sets. They said not a single Type 2 dollar in those sets were genuine. and very few of the Three dollar coins were real.

Another way to recognize the type 2 is the feather at the front tip of the headdress is the only one that comes anywhere close to the lettering,

Quote: I'd buy the XF for that much, can't find them on ebay for around there For certified coin I seldom had any luck on ebay. The times when I did find a good deals was with( make an offer) seller with multiple listing. I would contact the seller and offered to buy many of his coins at a larger discount. Most of my coins were bought from the online auction(HA.com, stack's, and Great collections) where I feel has the best price.
