In the mind of the average Canadian, does Vimy Ridge stand above all other Canadian military engagements? Is it held above all others?
I would say that it is the most recognizable of Canada's military engagements. It's almost certainly the most commemorated. Every April 9th, the flag on the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill is lowered to half mast. In 2003, the Government was declared that April 9th would annually be "Vimy Ridge Day". At least a couple of Royal Canadian Legions have Vimy in their name and there is a Vimy Ridge Memorial Bridge in Ottawa. There are also quite a few events planned for 2017 surrounding the Battle of Vimy Ridge. http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remem...-anniversaryThere are certainly other military battles in our history but I don't think any compare to the attention (rightly so) given to Vimy Ridge. That said, the average Canadian sadly likely knows little of the Battle. Depending on the age range of people asked, you might find that many would say D-Day was our finest hour.

My assumption is even worse. Without doing actual research, the answers will be like: WWI - "what is this?"D-Day - "Yeah, it was something, in some movie about the war" (Save private Ryan) V-Day - "Together with US Forces we defeated Germans and "nuked" Japan"

Ipsos research on knowledge of WWI. ""Canadians are often said to not know about their own history but we've found that over 60 per cent of Canadians had heard of the Battle of Vimy Ridge and some areas were over 70 per cent," he said." "Canadians scored highest in awareness of the Battle of Vimy Ridge at 61 per cent — not surprising considering the battle is often touted as a seminal moment in Canadian history." http://news.nationalpost.com/news/c...y-approaches

Surprisingly only one VIMY coin released thus far...as we quickly approach the 100th anniversary of what many a historians refer as the big nation reaffirming moment - VIMY RIDGE 10oz coin version of famous painting is well done but few will afford to own... Circulation coins to come...when? And even when they do...they will simply mix in with pocket change...barely noticed. Aside from nation building themes...the VIMY story was so much more... Many historical lessons for future generations beyond just canucks -

Beside the one note by MoneyPenny, there is another Vimy coin in April though it is a reimagining of a medal. Quote: Circulation coins to come...when? Toonie, likely in the Fall. http://goccf.com/t/282630#282630

@CC-Ottawa, I really like this coin, if the 10oz Vimy coin looked like this one I would have ordered it.

I want to create a unique display for my Vimy coin and thinking about putting the Richard Jack painting in the background.
