For a cheap solution, try a clip on magnifying device. Seen them for less than $10, clips over cell phone camera, then play with light sources, even try an LED flashlight maybe?

I use my cellphone to take coin pictures. Samsung galaxy s4 mini (CMOS 8.0 MP camera). I can take decent pictures from coins but with slabbed coins I have problems with focus. I use open camera application and recently bought macro lens for my cellphone (black eye 20x).

Overall I'm quite happy with my phone camera. Open camera application seems to do quite good work with autofocusing. I think problem with slabbed coin pictures is extra layer of plastic between coin. Here are some examples of raw, slabbed and macro picture.

Probably the top problems people have when shooting pictures of coins are
Not being in focus
Not being able to hold the camera steady enough while taking the picture.
Not being within the proper focal length of the camera.
Not high enough resolution
Not cropping and resizing images.
Poor lighting

The focus and not holding steady are often related. When shooting closeups the slightest movement (Such as when you click the shutter) can cause blurring of the image.

Focal length problems often happen because they think they have to get VERY close to the coin and end up too close for the camera to focus properly.

Try using a tripod and if your camera has a timer release for the shutter use that. Set your camera at its highest resolution, get the coin is good focus and then use the timer and take your hands away from the camera. If this givesyou sharp focus images then you can play with the lighting to get it right. When you have an image you like crop the image down to just the coin.

It doesn't take a high quality camera to take good images. Technique is more important.

Taking pictures is quite hard, but after reading some of the links given to you here, and trying over and over again, you'll get the hang of it!

Suggest experimenting with your current cameras and cell phones before buying anything. Most smartphones can take a decent picture. You overhang the phone on some books with coin below. Position a desk lamp to light the coin. Set the phone to take pictures with voice activation to reduce camera shake. Zoom in on the coin to get desired size & detail...

First go to the Camera and photo section of this forum
Second take only one coin in a pic. and trim it down to the size of the coin

My cell phone took better pictures than either on of my digital cameras. I can change the lenses on the SLR camera and I will give that a try.
Sorry about the quality and alignment of the coins in the picture. I just wanted to give an example of how the pictures are not very clear.
I will try some of the programs and see how they work. I did use the program that is available on this site. I couldn't upload bitmap and had to reformat to jpg. The program did clear up the pictures and I will keep trying to enhance my photo skills.

I checked on Open camera, but my phone is too old. My phone is an LG with the slide out keyboard. I might need to upgrade my phone also....

I had to run a search in order to find out what a loupe was. I had no idea that the eyepiece was called a loupe. Learning curve here I come.

I will try some more on the coins I have. I looked at pictures on line of the different style large date and small date of the 1960 Lincoln and these appear to be round zeros. I can't image I would have three of them with small date.
