You probably did OK. Without better pictures, including the reverse, it's impossible to tell if there are problems with the coin that would dictate a lower price. From what is visible, I would not hesitate to fork over $17-18 for a dime in similar condition.

I say it is a good buy. Did you get it locally or from online/mail-order?

I got it off ebay. I was just flipping through when I saw the auction. I thought they did an awful job of titling it and describing it. 1835 10c coin was about it. It was about to end, but the price seemed good to me. I figure I can get a capped bust dime for just 15ish plus shipping. I didn't see and haven't see the back of the coin. I could still get messed up, I guess.
I am still not sure why they listed it where they listed it with just a crap title.

Oh well... hopefully I got a good deal on my first capped bust.

ebay has great deals if you are patient. I once bought a "set of 6 old dimes" with a picture of 3 of the best. the three shown were 40's mercurys in XF. the other three were a VF barber, VG barber, and VG seated liberty. good deal for $11
your dime is another example of a hidden great deal. congrats

Ok I need to scan it. The back was very well worn. That might be why it wasn't scanned. :) I think G is a fair grade.

Oh well... The guy did through in a free foreign silver coin as a bonus. Maybe that makes up for the poor reserve.

Free stuff is always good.

I depends on how bad the reverse is, but probably still a good deal.

Waiting to see pictures!

You were right, the reverse is a lot more worn than the obverse. I do not know how to grade the reverse, but it is still probably a decent deal.

I think the reverse makes the overall grade for the coin AG-3.

I think that overall the price paid was fair for the coin: not a bargain, and not a rip-off.
Rest in Peace

I'd say that the reverse is AG, obverse is VG, about a G, you did get a good deal. If I could get a more key date of one of these at that rate of discount I'd be very pleased.
