It is a bit far for a day trip. It would take more time and some planning.

Awesome reporting, Super Dave! Wish they had big shows like this in the Midwest.

I'd like to make it one of these days, but like Superdave I'm a no-driver and it isn't a short trip, 566+ miles one way. Wouldn't mind flying in, but it's 100 miles to the airport. MikeF closest they have in the Midwest would be the Central States Show in the outskirts of Chicago. For five years the ANA summer show was in Chicago. But they've moved on now.

Sounds like it was a good show! I always love reading show reports, thanks for sharing Dave.
When will we see the pictures of your new purchases?

Fantastic write-up Dave!
A couple of thoughts regarding the world coins...
I think the expansion you have been seeing is reflective of the market as a whole, there have been several long time time (serious) U.S. collectors who have gotten into the world coin market in the past year or two, and many others who are realizing the quality of coin they are able to get for the same dollar amount, when purchasing world versus U.S. material is simply much higher...
I would highly suggest attending the NY International show this winter, quite an easy trip via train to NYC from all major northeast cities, and nearly all the major world dealers will be there...

I've always felt the NY International to be a bit, um, above my station. It's a small show in the grand scheme - only 100+ tables, about the size of Gettysburg - and concentrated on the very high-level sellers and coins. As someone who only very rarely spends as much as $100 on a coin, I feel my personal interests won't be well-represented there. That said, I'm at the point where I have to expect a 3-digit price for all the remaining pieces in the set I'm doing (Mint State Canadian Large Cents). Your suggestion is timely, because I'll have some "use it or lose it" vacation days to burn in that month. Guess it's time to cross that show off my bucket list.

There is certainly an element of that (my first year there I was sitting next to a buyer writing a 6 figure check on a single ancient!), but there are certainly some quality mid range pieces there, and dealers who specialize in more affordable pieces... In regards to the Canadian Large Cents, there are several dealers who I'm sure will have what you are looking for, but one thing about this show is you will have to pay for quality. If you do end up making up it up, send me a message, I usually try to make it up there on the Friday...

I have noted people I've purchased from on the dealer list for that show, which is encouraging.

Great report. I never go to large shows since I have about 3 to 4 shows near me every Month. Unfortunately due to a recent hart operation, not able to make any of them. One dealer sent me an email asking what happened to me. Sort of nice knowing I go to so many shows I'm missed. I stopped going to large shows due to the higher costs of entrance fees, parking fees, etc.

Very much enjoyed this detailed report. I had planned to go but a date conflict opportunity to attend an important show involving my 'other' collectible hobby interfered with that but surely saved me lots of ca$h. Maybe next time.
