nickpicker, those are great examples, thanks for sharing.

MP2018, that was a first one for me, kind of neat to see that on a fairly modern Cent.

If I'm not mistaken they changed the design at Liberty (it might have bee the depth) trying to prevent the BIEs. That's why they're predominately on the older cents.

chuckster, nice examples. Thank you for sharing.

coinmasters, thank you for the information I was not aware of the design change, however it makes perfect sense.

CoinMasters, on the LSC's it could still happen, but it is a lot less likely now. It would usually happen if there's a long Die Crack in Liberty or if the die just chipped out a piece of metal.

Your welcome Chase. It could happen in any year EandV. It's just a lot less frequent now. The design was facilitating it in the early cents. I believe it was around 1970-ish when it was changed. On second thought maybe it was the reverse design change in 1959?
I know for certain they altered the reverses on the Memorial cents to make them less susceptible to becoming Floating roofs (from polishing). That was done around the mid 70's.

"To me they are just die chips."
I agree. I have stopped keeping these. The same with "filled letters".

That's the beauty of collecting, we all get to collect what we want. Tons of people like em, and tons of people don't. I like em, but wouldn't push them on someone that doesn't.
